Advantages: It's great to win gold medals!

Disadvantages: It's difficult for the general public to go out and play this sport

Shooting, like any other sport in the Olympics, takes a tremendous amount of practice to get good at. It's understandable that many great shooters have come from the States as they have a serious gun culture. I've always found it a mystery though that Britain gets so many shooting gold medals. Guns are banned for general ownership and use, and we certainly do not have anything remotely approaching a gun culture. Yet it seems that every Olympics we win gold medals in shooting, and sometimes they are the only gold medals we win. There are a number of shooting clubs in England, but surely it would still be impossible to practice as much as if you lived elsewhere? I think that some of the coaches of other sports in this country should go down to these shooting clubs and find out the secret to winning!

We live in the village of the Double trap Olympic Champion Richard Faulds. He practices three times a week at his local range which he built,he shoots 200 clays in that time on each day, plus at work for the London Gun Company. Richard Faulds also competes most weekends. But he has worked hard for his titles this year. But in all that, he has had to fight the council to get planning permission to shoot, and they only allowed it up to the Olympics, so he not only had to practice for the most important day of his life, he had to fight off idiots, who have no idea about country sports. This country should support it's sports people, not stop them before they have chance to shine.
