Advantages: Great enjoyable day out.

Disadvantages: Expensive, painful

Paintball is a very enjoyable activity; I am not sure weather it is classed as a sport. The thing is it does actually hurt, but this hasn’t stopped me from going again. The first time I went I was probably like most people worrying if it hurt or not, and trust me it does. This activity isn’t for wimps. During the course of a day, you should participate in several activities, with different scenarios. Common scenarios included: The Crate: Basically you have an ammo crate hidden within a restricted area and both teams battle it out to find and retrieve the crate back to their base. Points are awarded appropriately.
Protect the President: Usually based around a character, (president/queen), and usually based in a disused mock-up village. One team hides president, whilst other team have to storm the village and shot the president. Again points awarded appropriately, and usually more points awarded for a headshot, etc.
Bounty Hunter: Purely all against all. Usually played at the end of a session, where you have the opportunity to use up any spare ammo.
Most arenas nowadays have semi-automatic guns, where you don’t have to worry about pumping the gun. Also if you go to a well-established paintball arenas you will find a wider range of weaponry, such as paint grenades, etc. I have heard of an arena where you can actually drive ex-army issues Range Rovers around. Overall though this is a fun activity, and I recommend it for such events as Birthday’s. Generally it does not cost much to participate, but it does cost quite a bit for the paintballs themselves (especially if you are trigger happy). I also recommend a balaclava if you have one, and wear quite a few layers of clothes (Bruises Polo shaped are common).
Happy paintballing!
