Advantages: Unpredictable, Exciting, An institution

Disadvantages: Unpredictable, Old fashioned?

Wimbledon is definately an instutional. Strawberries, rain, queues etc.- they all create the Brtish stereotype. The crime, drugs etc. can all be forgotten as people sit round the telly- or crowd into court one to watch our British players be beaten.
Many Americans, for example, see the stereotype Brit wearing a suit, talking in a posh accent- and living in a big house in the country- and Wimbledon definately contributes to this. However, does this image of Britain do us any harm? I'd rather be thought of as posh, than many of the other stereotypes that exist.

However, the fact is that Wimbledon is still great fun for the players. It's unique, fans get involved in the games- cheering and doing anything to get a seat in the court. The fact that they're grass courts also makes Wimbledon stand out.

And who can forget the weather- which was fine this year- until Henman's semi final (poor Tim). It gives the game a whole new dimension- although it can be very cruel on the players.

Therefore, in a world where Britain is perhaps, increasingly unimportant- Wimbledon still stands out. Oh, and there's some really good tennis too.
