Should children be left home alone?
I am sorry to hear about the little girl who was snatched from her holiday apartment. And I am sorry if I offend here.
A couple were on holiday in spain with their 3 year old daughter, and their 2 year old twins. They decided to go out for a meal a few yards down from the villa, the children were asleep, so the parents decided to leave them, and kept a constant check every hour, then the next time they went back to the villa the 3 year old girl had been taken.
The question I ask here is, would you leave your children home alone? I would'nt not even to go for a meal, the kids are part of the family and if I could not take them with me I would'nt go out. What age would you say is the right age to leave children I would say it depend on the maturity of the child, but as a general rule if I had to do such a thing it would 'nt be until at least 13. The children in this case were after all only 3 & 2 years old and should have never been left alone even if it were to go down the road...........................especially in a foreign country. I could never live with the guilt of what I had done to that child.
My point is would you leave your child/children home alone? and would you do this in a foreign country you decide. I hope they do find her safe and well.................
Summary: Should children be left home alone? you decide

fayp - 10/05/07 I agree, although feel so sorry for these parents with the added guilt they now feel.
A fire could start in 30 mins between checks, or imagine the terror of a 2 year old waking alone and screaming for 30 mins.
So awful though, let's hope they find her alive quickly. |
