The development of this activity as a leisure sport has become popular since the mid 1970s. Rafts were originally the simplest form of man’s transportation in water and were then made of several logs, planks or reeds which were fastened together. Nowadays, inflatable boat were used as rafts which were later adopted by the military for beach assaults. The Zambezi rapids have very high grades, that is they are comparatively fast and viscious. Our boat was overturned three times out of about fifteen rapids that we went through. I have been lucky enough to experience white water rafting on two occasions; in Zimbabwe and Canada. The first time was below Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River in Zim. This was probably the most exhilarating day of my life. Various companies take tourists rafting on the Zambezi and I recommend that you should go with one of the smaller ones because they seem to take thier customers through more of the rapids. I was in a boat steered by a Canadian world champion so I felt pretty safe. There is no other experience in life like the exhithliration and power of tumbling down biggggg white water on a flimsy inflatable full of petrified people. You go up and then down and then for some reason when your boat skipper has just steered the raft through a mean turbulent rapid he feels the need to push some one in to try his survival skills.I was lucky and tactically aware enough to avoid a dunking from previous experience ride down the Inisfall rapids in Northern Australia.Don't worry its harmless fun and all part of the buzz. The best rapids in Africa are on the Zambezi near the Victoria falls in late summer when the general public are allowed to ride ...

What a fantastic time I had. I chose to just do a 3 hour beginner route. There was about 8 people in the boat, including 2 small children. We went down several rapids, which were all fairly mild, according to our instructor and I agree they didn't look like the dangerous ones you see in films but they still had me worried at first but I was soon laughing and shouting along with everyone else and I loved every minute of it. There ...
