Advantages: Would be nice to see someone else win title
Disadvantages: Man U could win it
This season promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in a long time, despite the lack of activity in the transfer market, there have been a few decent signings who will be keen to make an impact this season. Chelsea have brought in Shevshenko, a player I rate very highly. Although I feel they have been stung with the price they had to pay for him, how any 30 year old can be worth that is beyond me.
Then theres Man Utd, a team who have let go of Nistlerooy, one of the premiership's most prolific goalscorers. They have however strengthened in the signing of Michael Carrick. A team that shouldn't be underestimated, they still have Rooney and Saha up front. Its whether they can keep Ronaldo happy which could proove crucial in how successful they are this season.
For me there are 4 teams that all have a good chance of winning the title this season, The 2 I've mentioned plus Liverpool and Arsenal. Arsenal, for me have made a lack of signings and letting Pires go will hardly help them. Reyes is also rumoured to be joining Real Madrid, Arsenal will need to be keeping hold of their players if they're to win anything. I don't think Arsenal will win it this year, They seem a weaker side and this, combined with a new stadium is something they will have to get used to.
Liverpool on the other hand have made some sound purchases, Particularly Craig Belammy, who for £7 million is a bargain. Jermaine Pennant is also a quality winger who has shown promise in Liverpools recent friendlies. They have always been a strong home side, and Steven Gerrard is one of the best midfielders in the premiership.
Chelsea are 4/9 to win the title this season, these odds are tight from the bookmakers, but then they have strengthened. I don't think they needed Ballack, and Duff was a quality midfielder who they've let go to Newcastle. Don't get me wrong I still think they are going to be a very hard side to beat, but They are beatable.
Liverpool for me are the team who have strengthened the most with their recent signings and, after seeing them see off Chelsea in the charity Shield, They have a great chance of stealing the title of Chelsea. Don't write of Bellamy to be top goalscorer this season either!
Summary: Liverpool or Man Utd produce shock?

freediveheaven - 14/08/06 Arsenal need to sign a couple of centre backs if they are going to do any good to support Toure. |
