Advantages: Many Great Advantages to football...such as the elation of seeing your team win

Disadvantages: deflations of seeing teams loose...

I have always been quite a sporting person, and my family will tell you that. They say I get my Love of football though, from my Father, though it is true that all my family carry Manchester United on their backs. My brother, Tom, and sister Hannah (dooyooer hannahf) are both just as crazy about the world's greatest team as I am, though people normally say that I am the biggest fan (aside my Father) as I am the one able to attend the most matches, and has the most merchandise.

And the name.

If you've read some of my opinions, you should know by now that because my Father was such a keen supporter, he wanted to name me after a player. Being my Father, he would have to have chosen the most ridiculous, Nobby Stiles Duncan Edwards George. Of course, my Father didn't show my Mother a picture of Nobby until I was baptised with that name, and when he did, I was from then on known as something different - Robert (after Bobby Charlton) Foulkes (Bill Foulkes) George (Err... my family name...).

I suppose that I liked my name, because it was different, I was not named after Parents or Grandparents like other kids in my school.

I went to my first Manchester United match with my Dad when I was four years old, my Father took myself and my sister, who was then six to see Manchester United against Liverpool. To be honest, I can't remember the match at all, though my Dad said it was good.

After that I went everyweek when United where playing at home, my Father's brother being a steward at the games and being able to get us in for cheeper prices. Until I was about nine, I don't think that I was really that interested in football, but that was before I had really kicked a ball.

My sister played football, and my dad was a bit dissapointed that I didn't. So, after a game one Saturday, he took me down to the local playing fields and let me take shots at him.

Well, I thought I was alright, but my d
ad seemed to think I was marvellous, which of course upset my sister a lot, as being the man that he was, wasn't all that interested in watching his daughter play for the local side.
The next day, we trotted down to a local club, and whilst watching them play a match, he asked if I could join.
I went along to training, and started to play in defence for them.

When I was thirteen, I was asked to join the Manchester United academy.

I played for the under fourteens and sixteens, until a couple of weeks before I was about to sign professional contracts I broke my leg, and had to have a huge operation on it, meaning I could not play properley again.

This was such a blow to me, and although I didn't think I would make it to play for a huge side, I was desperate to play pro football.

I went onto do GCSEs and A Levals and I am now at University in Newcastle.

I stopped going to see United play, and I realised that i couldn't survive without Manchester United from when I was about 16 to I was 161/2- ish.

I have been since to a great many matches, and now have on my wall at home in Newton Heath a large number of United Reviews, which are the programmes from Old Trafford. The piles of football magasines in my bedroom cupboard are huge, as are kits hanging in my warderobe.

You are probably wondering why indeed I am writing this. Well, It is basically to explain to those fortunate enough to love football as I do, to never give up loving the sport now, as you will find it very hard to live without it.

There is the question of glory seeking fans, and I think you'll realise I support Manchester United because it is in my blood.

As Chips and Gravy are... being a Manchester Lad...
