Advantages: The whole of the Premier League
Disadvantages: all other league
People have been doubting how great the Premier League is recently for reasons I just can't understand. People feel that the Spainish league or Seria A is better but I don't think they are really looking at the likes right. What makes a good league. For me it's fast flowing exciting football that really is unpredictable. This is exactly when the premiership is. People seem to think that because Man U are so dominant in the league it makes the rest of the league terrible but this is simply not true. You still get shock results which you just don't really get in other leagues and the speed of the play in the Premier League is second to no other league. The spanish leagues may have some skillfull players but this is only through out the tops clubs unlike the Premier league where you have the likes of Hagi, Cardone, Dyer, Boksic who are playing for clubs near the bottom half or not even challanging for Europe. The Italian league is said to have the best players and we only get players over 30 yet when the likes of Di Matteo, Bergkamp, Ginola came over they were not over 30 and why do the Italian and Spanish clubs want our top players if there past it? We are have the most money from all the leagues, we play the best football and we are now even doing well in Europe and it will be like that for a long time to come.

INA your face - 22/04/01 I completely diagree with you. The quality of football played in Serie A and Primera Liga is of a much higher standard. Contrary to popular belief there are a lot of goals scored in Italy and Spain. In Serie A for instance, from February 2001 to March there were seven 2-1 scorelines, three 2-2s, two 3-0s, one 3-2, one 3-3, one 4-0, one 5-0 and even a 5-3. This not only shows how prolific the teams are but also how close the final scores often end which makes exciting viewing. Both leagues also have closer title races. In Italy the last two seasons were decided on the final day of competition and for the past three seasons three different clubs have won the championship (it could be made four if Roma stay at the top). It is similar in Spain, for the last two seasons two different teams have won the league (it could be three if Real Madrid secure the title). The best players in the world also play in Serie A and Primera Liga which provides excellent entertainment. Footballers such as Zidane, Figo, Totti, Raul, Shevchenko, Batistuta, Crespo, Ronaldo, Veiri, Rivaldo, Kluivert, Nedved, Rui Costa, Veron, Del Peiro, Davids, Mendieta, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Nesta, Thuram, Cannavaro, Maldini, Buffon and Toldo. If they're not good enough for you then you can't possibly love football.
One last point, Di Matteo and Ginola are not great players. You obviously can't make the definition between true quality and someone of standard ability. Also you say that lots of Itlian clubs want our "top" players. Who are these players and do you have any factual basis for these remarks other than what you read in the Sun? |
