Advantages: Its an opinion from someone with alot of knowledge, its about something that affects alot of people
Disadvantages: Its written by someone that supports Man United
Manchester United have dominated English football for the last decade, they have been the pioneer for English footballs re-emergance at the top of the European tree, they have become the biggest sports franchise around the world and have the largest fanbase across the world, sou why are they as hated as Adolf Hitler in England? Rival fans attribute their hate towards United through a number of reasons, they play down Uniteds success, through a number of feeble excuses such as: referees are biased towards United- United have had 10 penalties in the last 10 seasons at Old Trafford and from my experience of watchin United I have never seen a referee biased towards United, other claims lie United always score in the last minutes-well, a football match doesnt finish until the referee blows the final whistle but in the eyes of rival fans that is cheating, another reason people say they hate Man Utd is that Man Utd fans dont go to the games- Manchetsre United are the only team in Great Britain to sell-out every game, every other team in the UK has matches where the staduim is well short of full capacity yet there fans are loyal and not glory supporters, Man Utd tickets are the hardest to get in the country, United fanbase far exceeds the capacity at Old Trafford so obviously not every fan can go to every game, so, as you can see reasons for hating United are poor at best, I think that the real reason is they are hated is because of their success, success breads jealousy, and with the media in charge of the anti- United brigade it doesnt look like the hate is going to stop, its just a shame that this country cant stand winners, with more encouragement and less vilification this country could have many more winners

The Operator - 06/05/01 Aaron - sory to disappoint you, only a U from me and I have been a United "follower" for more years than I care to remember. I hesitate to use the word supporter because I will freely admit that living in Kent all my life virtually disqualifies you from being able to get a ticket unless you are prepared to put the effort in (I'm not). Why United? Ashford Town weren't a league club (although they've had cup glory) and Gillingham and Charlton might as well have been on Jupiter. Of course there was the small matter of Best, Law, Charlton, Sadler (ex- Maidstone Utd), Stepney et al. Guido does raise a few points worth noting though, Utd are no means the worst at pressuring refs for penalties (but they're no angels either) and if a team gives up after 89 minutes then you may just win that European Cup. I think they are entitled to a bit of a swagger - who else has been close? Next year could see some really good competition though; Leeds and the 'Pool look like solid gold contenders. |
