Advantages: Football's been around ages and gives people a chance to bond in the acconmplishments of their team.

Disadvantages: Too commercial., Unfairly weighted.

I feel that the sport of football has, in recent years, become something akin to buying stocks and shares. The team you support has not generally enough money to purchase players of a high enough standard to compete well against the rest of the league. Take Man U (the obvious choice) - loads of cash, players worth tens of millions of pounds, and only a handful of home grown talent. The world of football is driven by money, nothing else. Teams such as Bolton or Fulham cannot afford to compete in the premiership as the top players can earn 5 or 6 times the wage at another club.

My experience with football is limited, I was not taken to games as a kid as my dad was not a fan, by the time I was earning enough cash to pay for a ticket and transport to a game (nearest ground was 25 miles away) I had no interest in the game. However, I play a version os the pools in my local pub and my interest has become aroused. From this I feel in a position to comment on the relative positions in cash and performance levels of then clubs involved. Many argue that the sport goes on whether there's a team full of star players or not, I am of the opinion that there is no point in following a game where you can practically predict each game on the relative wealth of theteams involved, I follow this method of prediction in the pub and I'm currently 5th out of 40 people.
