Advantages: Good aerobic work-out, team game, good fun!
Disadvantages: Not everyone's cup of tea
Ok, I know, why is this in the fitness category? All us football-heads are more concerned with chair throwing than fitness, but it ain't so! 5-a-side football is a great aerobic work-out. I play once a week and work up a good sweat I can tell you! Over the last few years I've been adding on a few pounds here or there, mostly due to a crash in the amount of exercise I do. So, diligently I tried all the usual options of jogging, gymnasiums etc. BUT IT'S SO BORING! Where's the fun in repeatedly lifting weights? Even if MTV is on! Football is a team game, so it adds a new element to your social life too! If you strech and warm-up and down properly it's relatively risk free and improves not only your aerobic fitness but your hand-eye/hand-feet coordination, suppleness and to a certain extent your strength. It costs £5 a week towards the hire of the pitch, not cheap, but you can get it cheaper than that! Sure, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. I used to play loads, but since moving to London I don't have enough friends that are into it to play. So I kept an eye out for ads in Loot and newspapers for extra players and eventually found a willing gang in West London. Some of them take it a bit seriously and I didn't know any of them to start with, but now it's all good fun and they're all good lads. I useless at it, but it's done wonders for my fitness!

- 07/07/00 I'll have a word with the lads Dantes! You'd have to be prepared, some of the older 'gents' take it a bit seriously! Shame. |
