Advantages: Sense of belonging to team, Good for business in my pub!

Disadvantages: Dont understand importance to males

As a typical traditional woman, I do not understand the importance of football to the male species. For me, working in a pub of football loving customers has proven a challenge. Saturday is the longest day of the week to me, and mid-week matches I detest. I can’t understand why you all get so flustered about a game? How can you all be so critical whilst sitting there developing your beer bellies?

I have tried to ‘get into’ football many a time, and with the start of the season, I am trying again. I found that I got into the World cup this year, and this has pushed me to give it another go. I don’t know whether I ‘got into’ the World cup because I knew who I was supporting and it was as if I was joining a team or community of fans. I even managed to make the 7.30 kick off games when I wasn’t working!!! Now there’s dedication!!

So this year, with the new season, I have chosen my team (Liverpool), and have joined a community of fans in my pub. Gradually, I am being taught who’s who - (Everton scum I believe!), the banter (You’ll never walk alone!), the rules and what the footie scene is all about. Liverpool are doing quite well currently - 2nd on Premiership table! Hopefully by the end of the season I will be able to say well done Liverpool when they fill their trophy cabinet some more after winning the Premiership!
