Ever fancied being a football manager? Ever wanted to put on the cyber sheepskin coat? Now you can and doo it for free! Check out htp://soccer.fantasysports.yahoo.com/premier! You can enter your very own English Premiership Fantasy Football Team for Free! You require Yahoo registration but that's a piece of cake. I had an Auction account with Yahoo, so I didn't need to register again.
What is Fantasy Football? It is a game first devised by the Daily Telegraph when the English Premiership was first started all those ago. As manager, you pick a team of players from various football clubs from the English Premiership. Each player gathers points from either scoring goals, setting up goals, number of successful tackles, number of saves, number of clean sheets, penalty saves etc. You also lose points from not being picked for a team or your concede goals or get red or yellow carded. The highest scoring team at the end of the season wins the league!
Yahoo Fantasy Football is based on a similar format of Daily Telegraph, which was immortalised by Fantasy Football with Skinner, Baddiel and Statto! You have to pick a team of 11 players, in various positions and formations. You are initially given 100 points to pick your chosen team. Obviously, the best players cost the most amount of points and the duffers cost peanuts. All good managers know that compromises must be reached because you can't have Shearer, Beckham, Yorke, Cole, Owen, Bergkamp, Desailly, Staam, Giggs, Martin etc because you will exceed your initial 100 points! At the end of the week your team/players gather or lose points based on their performances. If for example you had skinhead Beckham scored a goal (8 pts), had an assist (4), won a corner (1), had a successful cross (1), committed the usual 10 fouls (-5), had a shot on target (3) and scored the match winning goal (10), so would be right to say the "boy did good"!
The game is currently in its 3rd week of th
e season. If you want a chance of winning you'd better sign up quick! Team Fluffypup is in the relegation battle with the usually strugglers after picking up 129 points so we're 20026 out of 38483. My hopes are pinning on Beckham and Giggs to provided the crosses and a few goals; with Yorke/Cole and Haisslebank to score the goals; Desailly, Staam and Babbel to defend well; with Leeds ace goalkeeper Martin to keep loads of clean sheets.
It is a good game. You'll emailed every week to update or tinker with your team. I suppose the excitement comes if challenging for a place at the top of the table. So hopefully I'll start singing when I'm winning soon. Fantasy football is a bit of harmless fun. Yahoo provides a good service which is free for your fantasy football needs. Give it a go if you think your 'ard enough! ; )
