Welsh National Football Team ... international men's football. Controlled by the Football Association of Wales, the governing body for football in Wales, they are one of the oldest national teams in the world. Although not a major force in world football, Wales constantly punches above its weight and has regularly beaten some of the best teams in the world. Following a disappointing start to the 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign Hughes left his role with the national team to take over as manager of Blackburn Rovers of the English Premiership. John Toshack was appointed manager for the second time on 12 November 2004. In the qualification for Euro 2008, Wales has been drawn in Group D alongside Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus and San Marino.

The red dragons football has unfortunately become synonymous with one player and one player alone in the last 15 years. That player of course is Ryan Giggs, blessed with terrific talent and standing ahead above the national team he represents. The welsh are a very weak footballing nation and this is characterised by the fact that within the squad they call upon players some of whom play in the top flights of professional football, but many of them apply their weakly trade in the lower divisions. Since the aforementioned player has retired, the welsh have struggled to find their feet and have been beaten by the likes of Finland. That is not to say ...  Read the complete review

Some would argue that the best material comes from within. It can’t be read, or over heard, but it can experienced, so where could growing script legends Jimmy Perry and David Croft go for situation comedy genius? After existing careers had since flourished both behind and in front of the camera from their own memories of National Service and the Home Guard, what more could be tempt the BBC into script writing submission? A Royal Artillery Concert Party. Since the acclaimed success of the original series in 1968 of ‘Dad’s Army,’ the BBC’s most successful partnerships decided to create a follow up but on a different slant. Since the highly regarded ...  Read the complete review

Welsh National Football Team: Why so bad? (145 words)

With players like Giggs and Hartson, why is it that Wales are ranked below Vietnam in the FIFA World Rankings? On paper the side doesn't look great - but it doesn't look worse than a team of amateurs from Congo. I'll run through some of the players in the current Wales Squad: Paul Jones, Goalkeeper, Southampton. Ryan Giggs, Midfield, Man Utd. John Hartson, Striker, Coventry. Craig Bellamy, Midfield, Coventry. Mark Delaney, Defence, Aston Villa. With players like this why are we so bad. Is it the manager,Mark Hughes? Probably not. After losing to Belarus and failing to beat Armenia, once again the familar story is being ...  Read the complete review

I do actually feel sorry for the Wales supporter they haven’t won a match since beating San Marino in 1996 an to be honest they don’t look like doing so. They should be doing better. First of all Mark Hughes as manager that did make me laugh. He has no experience, so I guess it’s ok for him to learn his trade with the Wales international team, a few mistakes here and there nobody will realise. They should have gone for some experience and maybe Hughes as his number two. But, the manager the first mistake. And maybe they should believe in themselves a bit more, teams like Armenia should be a walk over, nothing to be frightened of and they ...  Read the complete review

First, lets make one thing clear - I don't pay any attention to FIFA's world rankings and Wales' very lowly place down the ladder. According to these rankings, Wales are a worse team than Vietnam! But are you seriously telling me that Wales would lose to Vietnam if they played them?! As a patriotic Wales soccer fan, I have suffered a lot of disappointments over the years, and I have learned not to get too carried away with any false dawns! However, when the draw was made for the 2002 World Cup qualification round, I felt it could have come out a lot worse for Wales. They were put into a group with Ukraine, Poland, Norway, Belarus and Armenia. With ...  Read the complete review
