Advantages: 2020 limited overs is exciting /easier to watch

Disadvantages: can be boring with test matches /slow paced

Cricket isn't my most favourite sport. I used to play a bit whilst at school but lost interest after a while. The limited overs game and especially the rise of 2020 cricket has got me interested again. With the Ashes as well not to long away, cricket has this summer at least come back to the forefront of English sport.

It is basically a game played with a bat which is made of wood (usually willow) and a leather ball. The ball used is hard so protective equipment is worn by the batsmen which include pads (to protect knees and shins) , gloves, box (to protect the groin area) and a helmet. The bowler bowls a ball to the batsmen who tries to score runs . I will not go in to all the details as it is quite alot to get through but that is the basic idea. Each tea consists of 11 players who each take a turn bowling and batting. In the main form of the game each team usually bats twice.

The 2020 version of the game is a shorter version of the game which provides bigger hits (more sixes and fours) so is considered to be more exciting than the traditional version of the game. I was at the opening game in the 2020 world cup this year between England and Holland (yes Holland play cricket). England were without their two top men Pietersen and Flintoff but they still seemed to have made enough runs to win the game. Holland had other ideas though and played out of their skins to take the game to the last ball of the game. They got the runs required and won the game. Holland beat England at CRICKET! 2020 cricket is alot more exciting to watch as there are more big hits and usually more drama in the games. Also there are music and dancers which appeals probably to the younger generation but may not be for the traditionalists.

The traditional cricket (not limited overs /2020) is probably favoured by those that are pure cricketers as it shows a greater skill level and wider range of shots as well as increased levels of concentration. 2020 is alot more exciting and probably appeals to a wider demographic which is probably why it has been popular and has resulted in the creation of the Indian Premier League where top cricket players join teams in India to play 2020 and get paid handsomely in the process (more than with other forms of cricket). The idea with the 2020 form of the game is not to replace the traditional version of cricket but to provide a version that is exciting and lively which it has done.

I find 2020 to be a highly exciting version of the game. Traditional cricket usually lasts 5 days and is difficult to just sit down and watch for me anyway and this provides a great alternative. Cricket is not the most exciting sport for me but 2020 has certainly got me interested a bit more in the sport again.

Summary: good game but not always the most exciting

Have to play cricket at school, I really don't get whats so special about it as most of the time you are standing waiting for the ball to come, anyway. Good review, very detailed

All my friends at school used to be mad on cricket and I just never understood it :( Still don't. Well done for an informative review anyway.
