Advantages: great experience, adrenaline packed, got to be done
Disadvantages: scary, costly
Have you ever thought about riding in a race or doing a trackday then why dont you. The easiest way i found to get into the sport was by contacting the ACU, the governing body of british motorcycle sport. They have a website which is very helpful and detailed. My problem was that the money involved in racing was massive and i knew i would not be able to fund it but i found a form of racing that i knew i could do. Roadstock racing, which is racing on standard roadbikes around most of the famous tracks in britain. New Era motorcycle club can help with all the details needed to get you going. To start racing you need a good roadbike that is street legal and a good helmet and one piece leathers. If you contact the ACU (Auto Cycle Union) and ask for a race licence they will ask you a few questions on wheather its a novice or intermediate licence you require, to race in the roadstock series you will have to get a intermediate licence which means you have to send them a copy of your road bike licence. When you receive your application form fill it out and then you must send it to the club that you want to join eg.New Era Race Club. They will sign it and send it on to the ACU, after a couple of weeks you should receive your licence and novice vest and you also should of got the regulations from your new club on race days so fill these out and send them back and you should receive confirmation on which race you put in for. Your next biggest step is to read the ACU handbook and understand the rules and regulations that are required for you to race but most of all be safe. When you arrive on the race weekend you must sign in at the race office to confirm of your arrival and then get your bike scrutineered by the marshalls, they will check that it is race worthy and safe to ride. The next step is to get out there and practice and have a good but fast race and to take it easy because it pretty strange at first when you have got bikes flying all o
ver the track trying to gain that extra place so be carefull.

huddro - 07/06/01 Welcome to Dooyoo, Excellent first op. Perhaps you might like to think about the lay out though perhaps some one line spaces between paragraphs to make it easier to read ratehr than a big lump of text. Very informative and enjoy the racing.....bet the insurance company doesn't like that idea though!!! |
