A long long time ago in a far far galaxy, there lived a little boy who thought Athletics was the ultimate sport to watch on TV. Taking part was never a factor, watching great athletes on the screen doing their stuff was magical. I loved all the big meetings, olympics, world cup etc. Many years later I have come to regret spending hours on TV watching track and field events. I regret it all because out of all sports Athletics is the worst. This sport is ruled by cheating men and women, people who would do anything to win. So in the week that British Athletics caved in to the lawyers over the Dwain Chambers affair, it has been as equally cowardly over the Olympics in China, asking athletes to sign wavers and promise not to politically use their voice to attack the Chinese regime. This is the same Chinese regime that is funding the genocide in Sudan in return for cheap oil and weapons sales. Drug Cheats fine...genocide fine. They are even going to stop the athletes wearing masks in the long distance races as it may be seen as snub to the smog filled cities hospitality. For a sport I have been involved in for thirty years I think this is pathetic. Athletics has exactly the same ...  Read the complete review

The Athletics World Championships - the second most important event in every Track and field athlete's sporting life. Ruthlessly, they pit themselves against the greatest and best in the world in a competition so significant, it is hosted in a stadium of thousands and is live on TV for billions to watch. The winners will achieve nearly the best gold medal you can receive in the sport, but more importantly, inherit the adoration and adulation of millions around the world. The culture of celebirty these days has everybody wanting to be famous, to be a god and a hero, and to be loved by billions. Although athletes are not, in the classical sense, 'celebrities', ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Clowns Suck (and Bad Ads Do Too) (1050 words)

Let’s face it, our society is almost led by the nose by the ad-men. With our huge over-reliance on the pursuit of wealth and materialism in general, we can’t really survive without the notion of advertising in one form or another. Whether we like it or not, we are influenced (however subliminally) by the 2-minute break that we get inserted in our brains every time the programme/film pauses for breath. So when the ads get it wrong we remember. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the ad designers as they are ultimately targeted on things like recognition and how well folks remember and associate with their ad so if it is excruciatingly bad then the chances of Joe Public ...  Read the complete review

Thanks to the "Bonus Gravity" provided by my landlord, whoever moves in above me will weigh approximately nine times their normal weight. To remind me that you got the "Bonus Gravity" deal, please make sure to stamp your feet with every step you take. If I cannot track your current location to within a centimetre, you aren't doing your job. When you’re not watching television, you should take it off the TV stand and face it, screen down, on the floor. Be sure to turn the volume up as loud as possible. If I cannot hear who is winning on “Men and Motors” topless darts, I shall petition for your immediate eviction. The best time ...  Read the complete review
