Steven Gerrard ... Aston Villa at Villa Park, Steven Gerrard secured Liverpool three valuable points after scoring a spectacular curling free kick into the top-right corner from 25 yards out at the 87th minute, just two minutes after Gareth Barry had equalized for Villa through a penalty. Gerrard was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match award. The win marks Liverpool's first opening day victory in the Premiership since 2002. In the Champions League qualifier versus Toulouse F.C., Steven was substituted with a suspected injury and this was later confirmed. His injury was a hairline fracture of the toe but he would play in the game versus Chelsea.

In the lead up to the 2002 World Cup the media was full of stories as to how much England would miss Steven Gerrard’s influence in midfield after he pulled out of the England squad with yet another injury. Without Gerrard, Nicky Butt played alongside Scholes, and was judged by many as the midfielder of the tournament, outstanding against Argentina and impressive throughout. Gerrard must now fight for his place in the England team, having to show he can match Butt’s presence in the England midfield, something we haven’t seen from him yet. The truth is that despite his natural talent, and endless praise from the BBC’s ex-Liverpool ...

What is there to say about Steven Gerrard ? the man is a class act in every single department. Since breaking into the Liverpool first team a few years back now, he has improved in leaps and bounds with every season with last season being his real breakthrough season. He has made Centre Midfield his definite position and ended the ideas of those who thought he should play as a wide man or at full back (positions where he still does an excellent job mind you). His partnership with Dietmar Hamann is a big reason for our defensive solidity as not many can out battle these two in the heat of battle. But where Steven moves out of the pack compared to the rest is his ...
