Well yesterday it was my birthday! And I share my birthday 30th May with Steven Gerrard, although he is a year older than me. As a Liverpool fan I am obviously a huge fan of this player so thought I would give him a review.

Born on Merseyside back in 1980 Gerrard was playing football from a very early age, he played for his local team Whiston juniors and was soon spotted by Liverpool scouts. At the age of 9 he joined Liverpool's youth academy. Well done those scouts! In his teens he had trial for various other clubs, including Man Utd would you believe! But he stay with Liverpool.

Gerrard made his debue in the first team in Nov 1998 against Blackburn Rovers. He came on in the 89th min, and little did people know what effect this scrawny teenage would have on merseyside over the next decade!

Nowadays Gerrard is known as an attacking player, but this was not always the case, he started out more defensive, he is still a very strong tackler and you can see why he is useful defending. But Stevie is now known for his bursts into the box and smashing the ball home. He scores many goals for Liverpool now and has made it to 20 goals in a season in three of the past four seasons.

He is a player prone to injury, has had several back problems and quite a few groin injuries. This is a shame really as Liverpool do really miss him when he is not at the heart of there midfield.

Steven has also had an excellent international career. He has never quite had the same impact he does with Liverpool, there is always the problem of him playing along side Frank Lampard who is just to similar a player.

The only thing lacking from Steven's career is a premiership winners medal. He has taken Liverpool to FA cup, League Cup and Champions League glory but is still looking for the big one! I am sure as club captain though and with the players around Gerrard this can not be to long in coming!

Overall Steven Gerrard is a fantastic player, I think he is a great role model for kids, his passion and for the game are what make him great. He has never been a big celeb in the media keeping to playing football and letting that do the talking, which is the way it should be. Great player, great guy!
