Advantages: If we changed, we could have a national anthem people could relate to.

Disadvantages: If we didn't, we wouldn't.

The nation. A country of people, united by the fact that they all live in the same country.

The Queen. An unelected, unchosen and probably unwanted leader of the female kind.

We have had the same national anthem for hundreds of years. I don't have any pride for our country. A country that has no space for people's views. They say, if voting did anything it would have been abolished years ago. Dooyoo is one of the few ways people can actually get their voices heard about products and issues. And, for any community, we need some things to represent them.

Modern music is created by people with feelings, and they represent people's thoughts. Our current national theme represents just that, a fascist regime, as the Sex Pistols put it!

The only problem is if we shout too loud about wanting a new national anthem, then Tony Blair will only ring up his old friends as D:Ream and commission their "Things Can Only Get Better" anthem as it. If anybody should do the National Anthem it should be from the following list:

* Radiohead (possibly use 'The National Anthem'?)
* Muse
* Coldplay
* Badly Drawn Boy
* Massive Attack

Hey, why not have a Welsh and Scottish national anthem? For Wales you could have the Stereophonics, or Tom Jones. Or for Scotland, how about Travis?

There's so much decent rock music coming out at the moment. Look at the last few albums by Radiohead, Stereophonics and Muse. They have written songs much more meaningful than God Save the Queen. I can pretty much recite poetry like 'Yellow' by Coldplay, or 'Street Spirit' by Radiohead. And who can't sing along with 'Why Does It Always Rain on Me?' or 'Sing' by Travis?

If we are supposed to be 'Cool Britannia' (ha ha), then why the moaning, droaning 'God Save our Gracious Queen'? Why do we have to salute someone we don't even know? And why do
schools make people learn the first verse of the National Anthem? If we don't want to salute our lazy, pointless Queen and a right-royal fascist regime, then why should we have to?

Just think, if we changed the National Anthem to something decent, and got rid of our Queen, we would be able to shave a couple of pence per litre of our already heavily bloated fuel costs, and listen to some good music at football matches!

And with Tony Blair's promise of everybody being wired, why don't we have an internet vote on what our new national anthem would be? I'd be most happy to host it, thank you very much.

"A fascist regime"......Nah, can't go along with that statement I'm afraid.....Don't see anyone being carted off to death camps and gas chambers here......I'm a Scotsman living in Ireland, so have TWO National Anthems......"Flower of Scotland" and "The Soldier's Song", and I love both of them.......Couldn't give a fiddlers about the ENGLISH National Anthem, but it does strike me as a bit odd that a lot of you want to throw hundreds of years of tradition out the window, when most other countries in the world would give almost anything to have it......Ken (the mad cabbie)

You must really hate the Welsh if you want them to use a Stereophonics song.

As for meaningful lyrics in 'Yellow' and Muse and Coldplay having good albums...sarcasm???

But Radiohead are an excellent choice.
