To tell the truth, I’m not a particularly patriotic person, I’m also not particularly proud of our Monarchy, but that’s not to say that I want them all beheaded and their wealth redistributed to the Country, not at all. I’m happy that they do an excellent job as figureheads for Great Britain. They pull in the tourists, act as unofficial Good ...  Read the complete review

Express Review on God Save The Queen
by CitizenX - written on 15/09/07
Rating:

Change the words by all means, but leave the music alone. It is only a durge because it is so badly aranged and played by military bands. It is much more suited to an orchestral rendition.
Rule Britannia and Land of hope and Glory are far too long winded and are connected with Imperial ambitions long unattainable.
If we must change, how about Bad Times Are Just Around The Corner by Noel Coward!

Premium Review God Save The Queen: A bit boreing (130 words)

Being a strong supporter of the Monachy I do not find any problems with the sentiments expressed in the National Anthem but it is such a boring tune with repetative words. In fact it is a bit of a durge. There are however one or two other contenders for the Anthem which seem to arouse the spirits. Rule Brittania is of ...  Read the complete review

Ok, now to start with this debate I should mention that I am first and foremost Welsh, so I already have a national anthem that I love and would never want to change. Having said that I am also British and do therefore like the national anthem of God Save the Queen. Why should we keep it? First and foremost it has been the ...  Read the complete review

Anyone in England, Britain, or wherever that knows anything about history will know that the monachy and so called Great Britian (the Empire) are the biggest bunch of lying cheating murderers that ever have been in existence. Dont give me that 'proud to be British or English' B--S--. The British crown and government has drenched the world in blood ...  Read the complete review

I think that the person who wrote the article concerning the English National Anthem was out-of-sorts on the day that s/he did so. Their article was backed up by no evidence. The English people have a fond liking for The Queen. I believe the polls put out by the British Parliament are proof enough. Well over 50% of the English, let along ...  Read the complete review

The German national anthem is an inspiring poem about love of country, love of culture, freedom, justice, loyalty and quite a few other noble sentiments. The beautiful tune is by Josef Haydn, who died in 1809. I like it a lot better than our own British anthem, God Save the Queen, seemingly a servile, forelock-tugging tribute to royalty ill ...  Read the complete review

I think that so much attention is paid to royalty that makes me so sick. they should all just be banished from england. it's not like anyone would ever miss them, those stupid cows, clutching their fat purses full of money. how dumb 'royalty' is. it's just complete and utter bollox that they have people wiping their arses with silk ...  Read the complete review

I have been thinking about the topic of a "country's sprit" recently and I've found us Brits to be somewhat cynical and boring. Do not let this put you off my opinion. I have just returned from a charity event at the Manchester Evening News arena to do with the September 11th attacks. Russell Watson performed God Bless ...  Read the complete review

“God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us; God save the Queen!” Is there any National Anthem in the world today that is less representative of its nation and its people than ours? God Save The Queen: The WRONG sort of Monarchy: Dictatorship (203 words)
by - written on 14/09/01

We learn about dictators in history lessons, or well at least most of us, and what they imply, aim for and desecrate certain peoples and religions. There are, and have been, a lot of dictators, the most 'famous' being Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Josef Stalin and Fidel Castro. A fascist dictator is unique in the sense that ...  Read the complete review

The nation. A country of people, united by the fact that they all live in the same country. The Queen. An unelected, unchosen and probably unwanted leader of the female kind. We have had the same national anthem for hundreds of years. I don't have any pride for our country. A country that has no space for people's views. ...  Read the complete review

I’m not expecting to read too much agreement with my argument on this subject, but I hope it sparks a bit of a debate. This argument will be VERY one-sided, but only because I can see no reasons to keep God Save The Queen as the British National Anthem. Prepare your keyboards for some scathing comments directed at me… I do ...  Read the complete review

The monarchy in Britain is a very old institution. So like so many others it has been subjected to countless criticisms over the years. But is it superfluous simply because it is based on tradition? Swedish queen Silvia is adored by many, the Royals of Monaco have always had a place in the press, on covers of magazines, etc. Where? you ...  Read the complete review

Yes save the Queen and the rest of the royal family. Why? Well lots of reasons but here are just a few I have time to outline: Once we take away the royal family and / or change to a republic there is no way of going back. No changing our minds 10 years down the line, why do we change something that is not hurting anyone? If we ...  Read the complete review

Forgive me if I am a bit rusty, this is my first opinion. I am of the opinion that although GSTQ is slow and old, it is relevant to Britain today. HM is the main focus of Britain's national loyalty. You could not make much of a song about our flag, all it is is 3 crosses. You could not sing about the land, unless you focused ...  Read the complete review

This topic has got me into many arguments. My father is in the RAF and is thus employed by the queen. In my opinion, however, the queen is not the country and if the national anthem is to remain then it should be changed... To a certain extent I believe that the national anthem should be abolished altogether. The main reason is that it ...  Read the complete review

As stated I'm neither a monarchist nor a republican as such. I can see the benefits of both arguements for and against the monarchy. What no one can dispute is that the monarchy is a part of British culture, like fish and chips and Big ben etc. The recent election brought to light British sentiment over the saving of the British ...  Read the complete review

'God Save The King', which later became 'God Save the Queen', was a patriotic song first performed publicly in London in 1745. This song then came to be referred to as the 'National Anthem' from the beginning of the nineteenth century, thus being the oldest national anthem known. The words and tune are anonymous and it is ...  Read the complete review
