Hello again everyone and welcome to another of my opinions, this is about one of the many wrestlers that took WCW by Storm, Bill Goldberg. As I mentioned in one of my previous opinions the first wrestling show I ever saw was WCW 'Worldwide' where I first saw my now favourite wrestler, in Chris Benoit, there were many wrestlers on this show that amazed me but these were the main two, Benoit and Goldberg. Benoit with his great skill and tremendous mat wrestling ability and Goldberg for his astounding power and agility. He was involved in a match with Curt Hennig (Mr Perfect in the WWF) and Curt had several wrestlers at ringside who could come to his aid at any time, these wrestlers were, Bobby Duncam, Barry Windham and Kendall Windham. All of these men were 6 feet tall and over 260 lb and Goldberg was at insurmountable odds but still dominated the match with Hennig with many power moves. He soon hit him with one of his trademark moves The Spear and Hennig's three friend came in to help but ALL of them received a spear for their troubles. Goldberg single handedly destroyed all 4 men and the fans were going wild. Back then, I didn't even know wrestling was fake, and I thought this one man had beaten all 3. He was kinda like wrestling's version of Superman, only in short black tights and a tattoo on his arm :) Seeing as theres a secion on him here and I feel I write pretty good opinions on wrestlers (I've done about 6 now) I'll do one for him too. So... ============================================= Football Career: ============================================= Before becoming a professional wrestler, Bill Goldberg began his athletic career at the university of Georgia competing in their football program, with the Georgia Bulldogs, as a nose guard he was awarded 2 all SEC- honours in his college sports career. When he moved into the national football league, he played for Los Angeles Rams before being signed w
ith the Sacramento Surge of the World League of American Football. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 1992 and played for them for 2 years before incuring a torn abdomen injury preventing him from competitive play in 1994. He was later Shafted from the Falcons and moved to the Carolina Panthers in 1995. but his torn abdomen couldn't be fixed and he never played again. ============================================= Breaking Into The Wrestling Business: ============================================= Prior to being a footballer, he was a bouncer for a strip club in Atlanta and had always had a job secured there. As his active footballing days were over, he went back to that job, where he once worked as a 17 year old boy! As we all know, you have to be pretty big to be a bouncer so Goldberg often trained in the gym to keep his size up, when training there, he was spotted by World Championship Wrestling stars, Lex Luger and Steve Borden (Sting) and they thought he could become a pro wrestler as he was reasonably big and had the look of a menacing heel (Bad Guy), they took him to WCW's training base The Power Plant where he was trained by The Sarge. Buddy Lee Parker, and studied tapes of Arn Anderson to perfect his style. ============================================= His Wrestling Career: ============================================= Goldbergs debuted in WCW on a house show loosing to Roddy Piper. Soon after he made his Television debut against Hugh Morrus on September 22nd 1997, everyone thought Goldberg had no chance of winning, But he soon proved everyone wrong defeating Hugh in under a minute with his Spear and Jackhammer combination. He went on an undefeated streak thereafter, one un-rivaled in wrestling history. On April 20th 1998 Goldberg defeated Raven for The United States heavyweight title, a few months later he defeated the top heel in the business, Hollywood Hogan to win the World Title aswell. Gol
dberg was now one of the top faces (good guys) in the company and was as popular world champion, as there had ever been and he remained so until the closure of WCW in 2001. ============================================= Conclusion: ============================================= Goldberg is a very talented, yet very green (in-experienced) wrestler with tremendous power and agility, he has beaten some of the top names in the business and was one of only a few wrestlers to unify the United States and World heavyweight titles. Due to his in-experience his matches are all very short and the ending is as unpredictable as ever. ============================================= Extras: ============================================= Real Name: William Scott Goldberg Height: 6,5 Weight: 285 lb Finisher: Spear, Jackhammer. Aliases: Goldberg, Bill Goldberg, Horse shoe head. Promotions Worked In: WCW Recommended Matches: Goldberg VS Saturn: 19.04.98 Goldberg VS Hollywood Hogan: 06.07.98 Titles Won: WCW Heavyweight Title, United States Title, Tag Team Titles. Catchphrase(s): "Fear The Spear", "Who's Next?" ============================================= Another one bites the dust. Bye Bye. :o)
