His bright start continued in Australia. 6-65 and a flamboyant 51 at Sydney almost took England to victory, but after 20 wickets in three Tests he was diagnosed with a broken foot and had to return home. It wasn't really until the Australians arrived in England for the Ashes series of ... more

darren gough profile fast bowler Darren Gough made his first-class debut in 1989 having joined Yorkshire on a Youth Training Scheme. 1993 Gough won his first county cap, impressing with displays of pace and aggression typified by the match figures of 10-96 he took against Somerset at Taunton. He won a place on that winter's A tour to South Africa, where he was the second top wicket-taker and showed a willingness to learn and work hard. 5-81 in the "Test" also illustrated a welcome ability to rise to the big occasion. . His batting showed promise early on, but his first Test innings (65 against New Zealand at Old Trafford) remains his ...  Read the complete review

Darren Gough has got the reputation as a great fast bowler, and a personality to match. He is fiercely proud of his home county of Yorkshire, but often controversy is never far away from like, like his blunt refusal to tour India. Gough is enjoying a quiet winter off, while England sweat in India, but he will be back. Darren Gough was born in Barnsley on the 18th September 1970. He has not forgotten where he came from, loyal and determined. He has only ever played for Yorkshire, a county that spotted him as a seventeen year old in 1987. Gough made his first class debut two years later in 1989, and has been there ever since. Gough really came into form in 1992, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Darren Gough: DARREN IS A REAL GENT (540 words)

Despite the England team’s so-called resurgence in the past 18 months, our frailties have been underlined once more against the Aussies. But it is the batsmen who regularly let the side down and our copmplete lack of a penetrative spin bowler who can actually turn the ball. Once player stands out above all others in the squad as virtually free of any criticism. He is universally praised as likeable, hard working and one of the top pace bowlers around – He is Darren Gough! The Yorkshireman – from Barnsley – burst on the scene a decade ago and but for injuries (seemingly suffered by all English fast bowlers) he would have been a ...  Read the complete review

Darren Gough is argubably the best pace bowler in the world at the moment. In my opinion Darren Gough beats Glenn Mcgrath or Brett Lee hands down. His inswing and yorkers are awesome and are difficult to defend against. His form with the bat also seems to be picking up at the moment with his second highest score in 1 day cricket not to long ago with a supurb knock of 40 not out in the one day series. When he occasionlly plays for Yorkshire and is not in the England squad he rips apart the county opening stand with ease. He can also come back later in an innings when the ball is getting old and get supurb swing where everyone else struggles to get the ball to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Darren Gough: Dazza's Englands best bowler? (223 words)

My husband is a huge cricket fan and, as you do, you pick up bits on it. I honestly think that Darren Gough is the closest thing we have to Waqar Younis or a Wasim Akram. At the moment he’s the only England player who can do reverse swing effectively who can bowl a perfect Yorker and who has the capability of dismantling the middle order. He’s no mug with the bat and he can whack a huge six and make a quick innings. He’s done well to come back from injury and so far in the Pakistan games which I have seen him bowl, he looks very good. OK, he hasn’t set the field on light but apart from Shahid Afridi no bowler has, the wickets ...  Read the complete review
