Advantages: Championship was decided
Disadvantages: It was boring
Living here in England the Japanese Grand Prix was se to go off at 6.30 in the morning so I set my alarm and dualy got up for the Grand Prix expecting to see a fascinating battle between Schumacher and Hakkinen for the title and a good battles all the way down the field due to overtaking being possible on this circuit. How dissapointed I was,I ended up praying for the rain to fall harder so I could actually see some action rather than fall asleep which I was. Yes in some ways there was a battle between Hakkinen and Schumacher but it never really got close, neither tryed to overtake the other they just se-sawed the gap between each other but they never really closed within a second of each other. If only the rules where different we would have seen a fantastic battle between the two best drivers of the era.But instead the aerodynamics didn`t let them get close to each other so overtaking moves just weren`t on. It was like that pretty much all the way down the field I only actually remember seeing 3 overtaking moves all race! On such a good circuit aswell, and Mosely and Ecclestone still call it entertainment.Yes I admit weve seen 2 or 3 good races all year but more than half of them have just been bores, waiting for the pitstops which is the only time overtaking happens nowadays. I was sat there and from the second lap onwards and the camera at the first corner showed all the cars coming right the way along the straight and the gaps between them where pretty much the same between each car,the aerodynamical forces just weren`t letting them race.Only really Jacques Villenauve tryed any today overtaking today. I have to congratulate Schumacher on his win even though I didn`t want him to and also his team for the great second pitstop. But something has to be done because f1 even on one of the best tracks in the world was a bore.

- 28/09/00 Yeah they wouldn`t agree to that though,it is the obvious thing to do. |

- 28/09/00 Why not provide them all with exactly the same cars, then driving ability would show through. |
