Gun Violence in UK: Guns for protection? ... (41%). Guns were most commonly used as a threat (68% of non-air weapon offences), rather than fired or used as a blunt instrument. Gun crime is concentrated in a small number of urban areas. Nearly two-thirds of non-air weapon firearm offences occur in just three police force areas – Metropolitan, Greater Manchester and West Midlands. In these areas it is a major cause of fear and distress.

Newest Review: ... I have thought about this and similar issues for many year now. I hereby present my case: Most people will likely never have to use their gun to defend themselves. Perhaps all they'll do is take it to the shooting range or out to the country and shoot some targets every now and then. I use my revolver to protect myself and my wife against mountain lions, bears, javalina etc. when hiking, ... more

... and my rifle to protect our house in the unlikely event that anything ever happens one day. The vast majority of gun owners are highly responsible individuals with a personal desire to exercise their right to have that level of defense available to them. ...more

It's been interesting to read others reviews on the subject of "Gun Violence in the UK: Guns for protection?". I used to be firmly against guns, but I'd never really thought about it. Guns are dangerous, so I thought, so they should be illegal. Simple as that. As is the rhetoric repeated ad nauseam by so many. Well, for a start, most guns aren't illegal in the UK. It is actually quite easy to buy one. You can register, get a license and then purchase all sorts of fine high powered weaponry to keep by your bedside. As long as you aren't a criminal, you should have no problem. For a firearms license, the minimum age is 17. It's around 50 quid for a 5 ...  Read the complete review

On an episode of Panorama-the BBCs flagship current affairs show-they did a report on child prostitution up north. Through the hour it became clear that most of the girls were very young and very white and most of the pimps were very black and very Asian, with Eastern Europeans running the show in the more rural areas of England. Its no secret that vice and immigration are mixed. Through some subtle editing and a nod and-a-wink to camera by the reporters we learnt the above facts. We also discovered that the police were too scared and over sensitive to come out and say it in public, and because the police tip toe around this type of crime there are hardly any arrests ...  Read the complete review

The death of the little boy in Liverpool has underlined the need to grasp this problem by it's throat (or throats) and squeeze the life out of it before it results in yet more deaths of innocent members of the public, especially kids. This was a lad, doing no harm, having a kick around of football before the Saturday that would have seen him his father and brother going to the afternoon match to watch his team Everton, instead he now lies cold on the slab as the result of some gutless hoodies scum idea of metering out 'respect' - if the single celled amoeba's idea was to strike fear in the local community, well that's certainly backfired as it looks like the ...  Read the complete review

As with many topics, guns for protection is quite controversial. Unfortunately, most people have an idea of where they stand but do not know why they stand there apart from what they hear from a completely, totally biased media. Many do not even know a person who owns a gun but of course watching the evening news and hearing about another policewoman who has been shot entitles them to the full knowledge of how dangerous guns can be! I have lived in a few different countries including the USA and each country has its own set of problems. But as we have lived in the USA for more years than any other and since this bastion of personal freedoms always gets ...  Read the complete review

After the latest shooting of a police officer in Nottingham the culture of gun crime and the debate over whether the police should be protected withthe right to carry arms has once again surfaced. What did come to surface amidst the usual hysterical reporting is that Nottingham which was once known as the gun capital of the UK has actually seen a huge decrease in actual gun crime with the police targetting those they see as the possible culprits and using the latest tougher sentencing laws to get across the message that if you are caught with a weapon you will spend a long time in jail. For me those sentences could be made a lot tougher. In my ...  Read the complete review
