This is an opinion on a man known to the wrestling world as ‘Triple H’ a man respected for his hard work and his great story telling in the ring. He has dragged some amazing matches out of the likes of ‘The Undertaker’ and ‘The Rock’. Unlike ‘Stone Cold Steve Austin’ or The Rock, he doesn’t get by in the Wrestling business, using his personality and numerous catchphrases to get his name to the top. He works his hardest, and puts 110% into every match, and thats why he is respected so much. Career ------ Paul Levesque entered the world of professional wrestling in the late '80s, and was trained by the legendary Killer Kowalski, at Kowalski's wrestling school in Reading, Massachusetts. Taking the name "Terra Ryzing", Levesque began his wrestling career in the IWF, a small local independent promotion that worked with Kowalski's school as a promotion designed train wrestlers in a public wrestling environment. In 1992, Levesque captured the IWF Title, and stayed with the promotion for much of 92 and 93. In early 1994 Levesque, still wrestling as Terra Ryzing, joined World Championship Wrestling and debuted in a match against Brian Armstrong, whom he would team up with several years later in the WWF. Used on the WCW undercard, Terra Ryzing disappeared in May of '94, and returned in his new gimmick "Jean-Paul Levesque", which was one of a French-Canadian aristocrat. This gimmick would follow him for several years and through multiple promotions. The WCW continued to promote Levesque, eventually building him toward an angle where he would form a tag team with Stephen Regal. However, just prior to the culmination of these plans, Levesque left the WCW in early '95 for the WWF, where he took on the mantle of Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Helmsley entered the World Wrestling Federation at a troubled point in the promotion's history. The World Wrestling Fede
ration had suffered the loss of several of their biggest name draws, and had started to feel close competition from their rival, the WCW. Because of this Helmsley was booked in several angles with no apparent sense of direction. Helmsley fought undercard athletes like Duke Droese, Henry Godwinn, the Ultimate Warrior and Fatu. During this time period Helmsley became friends with fellow WWF wrestlers Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Sean Waltman and Shawn Michaels, in a group they dubbed "the Clique". When Kevin Nash and Scott Hall left the promotion in a controversial manner, Helmsley dropped from the spotlight due to what some speculate as punishment for the actions of "the Clique". Helmsley returned to the spotlight in late '96 and was involved in a feud with Mr. Perfect and Marc Mero, which eventually led to a lengthy Interconinental title reign. During this reign Helmsley acquired a valet and newcomer to the WWF, Chyna, and was booked in several matches against Dustin Runnels who used the moniker Goldust. Helmsley dropped the Intercontinental title to newcomer Rocky Maivia but would go on to win the 1997 King of the Ring, defeating Mick Foley in the final match of the tournament. Helmsley and Chyna joined then WWF champion Shawn Michaels to form the popular "D-Generation X" group, which Helmsley remains a member of to this day. As part of D-Generation X, Helmsley has gone on to wrestle several matches against Owen Hart and more recently Rocky Maivia in several high profile matches which have earned Helmsley a reputation as being a main event status wrestler. In 2001 he was put out of action due to a major leg injury, but after 8 months of training and rehabing, he came back, won the royal rumble, AND The Undisputed Title, he later went on to lose it, to Hulk Hogan, which is no feet to be ashamed of. He contines to kick ass and play the game each week. Extra Facts ----------- Real Name: Jean Paul Levesq

IainWear - 04/06/02 I think you should have used the ring name, rather than Rocky Maivia all the way through. I know The Rock did fight as Rocky Maivia in the early days, but that was a few years back... Did you know that Chyna wasn't the WWF's first choice as HHH's valet, although she was his? |
