I live in West London. My maternal family live in Hartlepool. So whenever I go up there it usually includes a visit to Victoria Park. How that place has changed over the years! Not just the ground but the surrounding area. Where did the bus station go? Where do the cars go now the main road has been turned into a cul-de-sac?

'Pools will always be a third division club. That's what the are. They have been going for ninety odd years and only been out of it for four years! Unless of course they have an exceptionally bad season even for them, and drop into the Conference. Which will then set up my ultimate game; My family's home town club against my home town club; Hartlepool v Hayes. I can dream can't I?

I actually had my name read out over the tannoy at a Hartlepool game. It was at Aldershot in the promotion year. Yes, Hartlepool have been promoted! I must have parked in a sensitive area, with Aldershot being the home of the British Army, and at the time when the IRA were active. Anyway I was called to the police hut and told to check my car for explosives! As my car wasn't registered from Hartlepool or Aldershot I suppose they thought I was going to blow the place up!

I am a Londoner through and through, but part of me still belongs in the North east. Good luck to everyone up there!
