Advantages: Helps new dooyooers learn the ropes
Disadvantages: None
I've been a Dooyoo member since last year now and I think I can say I am suitably qualified to offer a few pointers for both existing Dooyooers and those new to the realms of Dooyoo. This rough guide will be split up into two sections. Section one is for new Dooyooers who need a little bit of advice on making themselves feel at home. The second section is for existing Dooyooers and just gives a few pointers on how to make newbies feel a little more comfortable coz lets face it, we were all newbies at one point!! Section 1 : New Dooyooers First and in my opinion most importantly - Be yourself, Dooyoo is an OPINIONATED Community which means that it is your OPINIONS that count whether they are positive, negative or whatever. If you don't like something that everybody else does, just say so but explain WHY you don't like it, after all, echoing what I said before, Dooyoo is about opinions not popularity. Secondly - THINK about your op's before you write them, I've written a few duff op's in my time and I've had one or two rejected and in reading them again, I then see why. It is good advice to read the tips at the side of the screen when you're writing, or write your op in Word or something then cut and paste it in. Using a word processing package can help eliminate spelling, punctuation and grammer mistakes (I'll bet there are a few of those in my op's!!) READ and RATE other people's op's and make comments wherever you can. If you don't like an op you read, and rate it poorly, try to explain why you have rated it poorly. Nobody likes having their op's rated poorly but a positive explanation helps a bit! JOIN in the Dooyoo Message boards and get yourself noticed. The more people that recognise you, the more people will read your ops. DONT be personal in rating other people's ops. If someone rates one of your ops poorly, don't rate their ops poorl
y out of spite. This an opinionated community and personal grudges have no place here. Well I can't really think of any other tips so I'll move on to the next section. Section 2 : Existing Dooyooers Firstly, Be nice! I can remember when I first started with Dooyoo, people were positive towards me which in turn gave me the confidence and drive to write more ops. Try to consider people's first op's kindly, The first one or two are usually not the best of op's, I know mine weren't!! Be positive with newbies ops. If you don't like the op and rate it poorly, say why you have done so or they may think they are making enemies and not write any more ops. Make comments wherever you can, speaking for myself, I really appreciate it when people take time to read, rate and comment on my ops, no matter whether the feedback be positive or negative, it still shows that I'm being noticed. Well, Thats about all the advice I can offer at the moment but if I think of anything alse, I'll add it on at a later date......Be good to each other!
