Advantages: Dooyoo is a great place to aire your writing, Great place to make new friends, You might make a few pennies out of it too!
Disadvantages: LaCk Of CaPiTaL lEtTeRs is VERY annoying!, And just what is going on with our !?punctuation marks?!
This Q&A challenge can help newbies find out what dooyoo is about and, if many established members participate, what the community is like and will hopefully convince them to stay and become active. To be sure, everything has been said before, but has it had any impact? Only for a limited time until the opinion disappeared from the front page. By presenting the tips on helping new members in the form of a questionnaire which can be done by several members the impact can perhaps be prolonged. Several members, better: many members, to show that many roads lead to dooyoo. _______________________________ Q: When did you join Dooyoo? A: Oooh, hang on.... <Sarah Lou goes to open a new IE window> <Opens a new Dooyoo page> <Logs in> <Checks> Right. Found it! I joined dooyoo on 10th September 2000. Wow, I hadn't realised it'd been so long! _______________________________ Q: How did you discover Dooyoo? A: My sister actually told me about it. I didn't believer her when she said a website paid you to write about things. I registered, not expecting any payment. And was pleasantly surprised! Since then I have since come to realise that other sites do just the same! Dooyoo was my intro into the world of internet writing websites though. _______________________________ Q: Why did you join? A: If I'm honest it was for the money (you must remember that I was a mere GCSE student when I joined the site!) However, I have since learnt that I actually enjoy writing for Dooyoo and enjoy reading other peoples' opinions on things. So I can't grumble about anything! _______________________________ Q: What was your very first opinion on ? A: I'm not entirely sure to be honest! I've just looked back at my old opinions and found on about Wales (which incidentally has been locked!) I
t truly was DIRE! However, I suspect I've actually re-written my first opinion as I re-wrote many of my early opinions a while ago. So I don't know exactly what it was I'm afraid. I can't remember that far back! _______________________________ Q: Did you find it easy to get the hang of dooyoo? A: Sort of. I soon got into the swing of writing op's but I confess to never actually rating anyone elses reviews. I read them but didn't understand the concept behind rating them. However, once I cottened onto this fact I've never looked back! ________________________________ Q: Did you read other opinions before you posted your first one? A: I don't recall reading any before my first op no. I think I just jumped in at the deep end and wrote one myself. Which is why it was DIRE! I highly recommend reading around before you write anything yourself. ________________________________ Q: Do you write no/some/many comments? A: Some to many. I rarely used to leave any but now I like to leave a comment whenever possible. Its a bit more 'friendly' than simply a rating. I have, to date, written 3994 comments. _______________________________ Q: When you click on the list of Newest Reviews, do you read your friends' opinions no matter what they're on/according to subject no matter who has written on it/preferably the opinions of new writers? A: Generally when I clock on the list of Newest Reviews I scan through it to find my friends' op's. I read those first, generally regardless of what the topic is about. I occasionally read a specific topic regardless of who's written the op. I also like to read new members' op's and welcome them to Dooyoo. ________________________________ Q: Do you write your opinions in one sitting? A: Generally, yes. If I don't I
tend to lose the flow of it (or completely forget about it!) Occasionally, if I'm writing a really long op I'll write it in a few sittings but on the whole (like this one), I write in one sitting. ________________________________ Q: How often do you post a new opinion? A: I used to post once-twice a week but recently I've been very busy, neglecting Dooyoo somewhat. I'm hoping to get back into it now though. ________________________________ Q: Do you use a spell check? A: On op's like this one, I don't bother. I'm writing this in the Dooyoo box. However, for lengthier op's and non-challenge type op's I tend to write them in MS Word and do spell check before copying and pasting to Dooyoo. It doesn't take a minute does it? ________________________________ Q: Do you think you can improve your chances to get a crown if you suck up to a guide? A: To be honest I've never actually thought about it. Now you come to mention it.... lol. No. I really can't comment to be honest. I've never done this myself so I don't know whether it works or not! ________________________________ Q: Are you a member of a forum or a chat room? A: I'm a member of Tooyoo and the Yahoo "Writing Friends" group. Both of which I use fairly regularly. ____________________________________ Q: Does it get to you when members praise or condemn you? A: No really no. I've never had any really negative feedback though and never experienced any negativity directed towards me either. I don't *think* it would bother me if I had been targeted at any time though. After all, this is just a website! ____________________________________ Q: What did you do in your spare time before you joined dooyoo? A: Being a GCSE student I actually did homework, course
work and read around, as any good student should do! That soon ceased when my Dooyoo addiction kicked in though! I was still highly addicted when I was sitting my AS and A-levels too! ____________________________________ Q: What do you wish for the future? A: Simply for Dooyoo to continue going strong. I'd *hate* to see it decline as so many other sites of this sort have done over the past couple of years. And on a more trivial basis I'd appreciate our capital letters back! ____________________________________ If you want to participate, please add: Please don't take this challenge to ciao without asking MALU, she'd rather decide herself what to do with a text she's written, when to take it there or if at all. Thank you.
