Advantages: he's got the shots and the power
Disadvantages: can't turn it on at the top level
I've just watched Hick's dismissal in the 1st innings of the 1st test versus the West Indies after a tremendous knock of 0. Do you think he'll ever make any runs consistently against a decent bowling attack? God knows he's had enough chances. Everyone got carried away with his century in the fist test against Zimbabwe (although admittedly they got carried away with the whole Enland team's performance in that match) and then what he do? Proved in the second match against one of the worst (if not the worst) attacks in international cricket (ever!) that it was a complete fluke. Unless he manages to pull another century out of the bag in the second innings of this match, I believe we must have seen the last of a batsman so full of promise and potential, yet so disappointing. Sorry Graeme, you just ain't got it.

- 16/06/00 TonyTHETiger - You're right of course, the whole team had a bad innings, but of all the players in this team who need to prove they are capable of consistency, I think Hick is the one, though Husssain's form has suffered since taking over the captaincy too. I don't think Hick deserves more than 2 tests against the Windies to prove himself. Personally I would bring in Vaughan and juggle the batting order. Maybe time to give Nick Knight another bash at the new ball (though he's another one I wouldn't pick anyway). Where's Graeme Thorpe when you need him? :) I'd even be tempted to give Stephen James another chance. |

- 15/06/00 Boylins - i agree, a disappointing effort from hick today. But why single him out? Another deeply unconvincing innings from Ramprakash, Stewart out for 6, Athers out early - let's wait until the end of the series and then judge them all collectively eh? Hick has a higher average against the Windies than Atherton. |
