Hijack Ware ... and dubious practices. Popup adverts annoyed many, the insidious 'pop-under' adverts have caused furore, and as for spyware - the hidden applications that watch where you go and what you download and then report it all back to the manufacturers for 'market research' purposes...The latest evolution looks to be capable of actually destroying many web sites - Hijackware, which places adverts from the software over the adverts on a site, robbing the site creators of revenue and taking away all control over who gets advertised to their customers. These programs are in wide-spread usage among the internet users. Spyware resides in all kinds of useful programs, from download managers to automated form-fillers. There have already been 7 million downloads of the latest and greatest menace to web sites: Ezula's KaZaa software. 7 Million downloads of KaZaA so far! and 4th place on C|Net Download.com. That's a pretty serious amount of people who, every time they visit their favourite sites, are blocked from supporting those sites by the virus-like hidden applications that come with KaZaA, and come with Surf+, and come with Gator... How far will companies go to make money without working for it? Can the laws as they stand prevent Hijackware from pushing already struggling popular dot-coms into bankruptcy? Or is this whole matter just a case of greedy webmasters making a fuss over software companies with innovative new revenue models?

He doesn't like taking calls like this, so I asked if I could help with what they were wanting. It was from a company. I still don't know how they got our number, but all I could assume was they got the details from when we registered to PC. The woman on the phone said the company was looking for individuals from all walks of life. They wanted to send me out a disk, which I insert into my disc drive and they would monitor what I done on the net. I don't like the idea of this, but I ...
