Advantages: Great record, Good ground shots, Still only 20, much more to come

Disadvantages: Lets the pressure affect her game, Loses to Davenport, Williams in the power game

Martina Hingis shock loss to Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual in the first round of Wimbledon was the shock of the first day, however I firmly believe that she will be back in the future to add to her collection of five grand slam titles.

Born in Kosice, Slovakia on 30 September 1980, however has been brought up and now lives in Switzerland, giving her the nickname 'The Swiss Miss'. Martina is still only 20 years old, yet it seems she has been around forever. She turned pro in 1994 aged 15. Hingis has five grand slam titles to her name, she has won the Australian open three times in 1997,98, and 99, and Wimbledon in 1997 and the US open also in 1997. In 1997 she came so close to a grand slam, winning three of the four majors, and coming runner up in the French. The French open is the only grand slam tournament that eludes her, but she has been runner up twice, showing her adaptability to play on all surfaces. She is also an accomplished doubles player, winning 8 title at all major tournaments including the grand slam winning all four in 1998. Her main talents are a great array of ground shots, although criticism could come in her serves and other shots are too week, and she lets the pressure get to her.

However things have not been all rosy for Martina Hingis. She started as an amazing young talent, winning her first major at the age of 16, but recently has gone off the boil. Two main reasons for this are an ongoing court case, in which she is suing her former shoe manufacturers, for $30 million, as she claimed they have damaged her feet. She has also had a high profile bust up with her parents, who for a time were also her coach. She has been shone to let the pressure get to her and affect her game; her last singles grand slam victory was in January 1999. However she is undoubtedly a great talent, and you must not forget she is only 20. There is a phenomenal amount of pressure on her for someone so young, with the next two years she will ga
in more experience of coping with the pressure and will adapt to it. There are many more years left in her and so are many more titles.

Well, if Capriati can do it so can she. I hope she pulls it off.
