I am as you all might have realised, planning my gap year after university. Firstly, you need money, both enough for tickets and insurance, and for accomodation, food and fun. You have to work out a budget for after you have paid for flights and insurance, and make sure you can afford it without taking out loans etc. Research the company you want to book with. I spent long hours on gapyear.com asking people of their experiences, whether to book tours, or just go with the flow. I also asked whether I had been given a good quote, and asked about individual travel agents. I ended up booking flights and insurance with Sta travel, see seperate review. I ... Gap years generally occur during a university degree or immediately precede or follow such a course. They can take place in the UK or abroad, and be longer or shorter in duration than the name would suggest. I've had a few of these, one which lasted 12 months and some that were a bit shorter. All have involved work placements abroad, so this is what I'll be talking about here. The biggest, most important point I can stress is: RESEARCH RESEARCH YOUR OPTIONS: To start off, you need to know exactly what is expected of you. For my placement year I had to have a job, but whether I did that at home or abroad was up to me. I had to stay for at least 10 ... Read the complete review

There are a million different ways to spend the year, here's just a few suggestions: * get a round-the-world flight ticket and fly off. * Apply to a gap-year placement company and do a volunteer placement abroad. * Join an expedition * Earn money for uni * Learn a language abroad * Do some retakes Gap years can be ... I believe that everyone should experience a gap year, it is a time to really discover who you really are without the preasures of college/uni, parents and others expectations of you. I plan to travel for my gapyear and i plan to have the best year of my life, i can't wait to experience the culture of India, the realality of Thailand, and the buzz fron Oz. I thas always been a dream of mine to travel even from a young age, i would watch the t.v and tell my mum i would go there one day. For such a big experience it is so easy to make happen, you don't have to go to a lot of places nor do you have to go to expensive places but to go somewhere, ... Read the complete review

For a start, make sure what you are doing is the right choice. If you are unsure about going to university and are just thinking about taking a year out to sort stuff out, think again! There are more prosperous times before uni if you work, and earn enough to not have to scrimp and save when you are there. Make sure you want to do the whole travelling thing, because you will not make the most of it if you go to Australia half-hearted, or visit Thailand on a whim. For me it was a simple choice, go to uni or earn some cash with which to go to uni with a sense of independence rather than scabbing off of your parents all of the time! If you are going to Africa, be sure ... Read the complete review
