Netherlands National Football Team ... football team of the Netherlands and is controlled by the Royal Netherlands Football Association. It has won the 1988 European Football Championship (Euro 88), and has reached two consecutive World Cup finals in 1974 and 1978 but lost both finals to their respective host nations, West Germany and Argentina. At the peak of its success in the 1970s, the team was famous for its mastery of Total Football and was nicknamed Clockwork Orange for its precision passing. The Netherlands qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and finished second in Group C after beating Serbia & Montenegro (1-0) and the Ivory Coast (2-1) and drawing Argentina (0-0). Both Argentina and the Netherlands finished the group stage with 7 points, but the Argentinians had a superior goal difference and finished first as a result. The Dutch were eliminated in the second round after losing 0-1 to Portugal, in a match that produced a World Cup record of four red cards (two for either side) and was nicknamed the Battle of Nuremberg by the press. Despite criticism surrounding his selection policy and the lack of attacking football from his team, Marco van Basten was offered a two-year extension to his contract by the Dutch FA, which would allow him to serve as national coach during Euro2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The move was widely regarded as a vote of confidence in Van Basten and his assistants by the KNVB officials. Current squad: Maarten Stekelenburg, Henk Timmer, Wilfred Bouma, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Tim de Cler, John Heitinga, Kew Jaliens, Joris Mathijsen, Mario Melchiot, Orlando Engelaar, Nigel de Jong, Denny Landzaat, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Demy de Zeeuw, Romeo Castelen, Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Andwélé Slory.

Well we said it on dooyoo!, judge Svengerland when they play someone good. It was nearly minus Sevengerland as the Dutch ripped us apart. As we were getting turned over, the Germans were revving up the Panzers with ze five nil thrashing of ze Hungarians again. Our boys were getting run ragged so bad that we had to bring another eleven on in the second half. Unfortunately it wasn’t France and we still didn’t get a shot on target. It seems a long while ago when we done them 4-1 in Euro 200.It must have been, as that’s when Alan Shearer was still any good. The arrogant Dutch b******s returned to waltz all over us as their grinning ...  Read the complete review

I can't understand why holland are underachiving as in my view they have the best players in the world and have the potential to succed. With there squad they should have done better in World cup 98 and Euro 2000. They have some great players which are listed below. Goalkeepers ----------- Edwin Van Sarr -------------- A great keeper who has been around for a long time.He is an excellent keeper who has also captained his national side many times. He has been an outstanding figure in the Juventus team and has also tasted success at Ajax.He is a keeper who you want to be your last line of defence in the team.He has been 1st choice ...  Read the complete review

In my view, Holland underachieved in Euro 2000. Ok, they managed to reach the semi-finals before going out on penalties to Italy, but due to the very high standards that were set for themselves before the tournament began, this was not good enough for the vast majority of fans. Many people expected it to be a contest between France and Holland in the final, but due to the inability to finish off the Italians by the Dutch, this 'dream' final was not able to happen. Throughout the competition, the Dutch played some very fine and attractive football which was a pleasure to watch. They passed the ball around well, moved for each other, defended well and ...  Read the complete review
