I have just driven through the town centre. Seeing couple of people lying in front of shops didn't look pretty.

I blame new style of government for creating a new kind of citizen in this country. Citizen beggar was created by Tories when mental health care was virtually abolished in Major cuts.

Drug addicts and mentally ill make up bulk of homeless people and some beggars. Most beggars are professional, begging is business for them, this has created bad image in media and people accept it as that. People in real need of shelter and money are normally neglected.

There is not much protection in place for people with these problems. It is the responsibility of charities and above all the government to help these people. While begging is undesirable and unsocial, sleeping rough is a major problem. No one should sleep rough in Britain. So much foreign aid goes abroad that we can't look after own in this country.

Another source of troubled people is the Army. They see so many bad thing happening in war that eventually some have a nervous breakdown, some of them end up on streets too.

It is a cliché but it is also true, we must put more resources into essential services to help all in need.

Those who beg as a choice should be made to work in Tescos.
