Advantages: Its a good read

Disadvantages: some of its vendors

I always made a point of buying the Big Issue as I was convinced of its worth.

An honest way of making money for the homeless that are not fortunate enough to do so by other means.

I considered my £1 money well spent.

In my home city of Portsmouth, the vendors generally greeted you with a cheerie smile and a thank you.

Of late that seems to have changed, where there was one legitimate vendor, he now seems to share his pitch with all and sundry armed with cans of strong cider and abusive language if you refuse to buy.

Travelling through London recently, I was subjected on several occasions to having these magazines "shoved" in my face with what I felt to be menace.

I don't buy it anymore.

I will not be made to feel threatened and I will not part with my £1 to feed drinking habits.

Its a pity, because the odd few rotten apples have spoilt it for the genuine vendors who sell the magazine with good intention.

Although you've had bad experiences maybe it's worth finding a different vendor, where I live there is one in every shopping centre and at most train stations, and supporting them, it's such a positive idea helping people to work there way out of poverty it seems a shame to give up on it. Good op on an important subject.

I agree..the same thing is happening here in Manchester..I have been called numerous offensive names because i have said "no thank You"
