I have just driven through the town centre. Seeing couple of people lying in front of shops didn't look pretty. I blame new style of government for creating a new kind of citizen in this country. Citizen beggar was created by Tories when mental health care was virtually abolished in Major cuts. Drug addicts and mentally ill ...

Living rough or being homeless as it is known has become an almost ‘common’ thing, if you live in a busy town you will walk past homeless people quite a lot, if you live in a quieter area then it might not be a problem. The question that always hits me when walking past a ‘homeless’ person should you give them money? My personal answer ...

You walk past people everyday in the streets that you don't know from Adam, you don’t know their name, what they do for a living even if they have a home. Can you out your hand up and admit that you have refused to give money to a homeless person on the street? I know I can. It's not always because we are too busy, or to rude or that we *can't see ...

House prices over the last 20 years have out-stripped wages. First time buyers have found it increasingly difficult to get on the property ladder. Along with high house prices, has come high rental charges in the private sector. Some ten years ago, the M.P., Mr. Nick Rainsford predicted '' that the country would need a further 4.4million homes by ...

Personally I never give money to the beggars on the streets, to do this is to encourage them to spend it on drugs or alcohol. I prefer to buy them a cup of coffee and a sandwich if they say they need money for food. The alternative is to give to the shelters which look after these people, but again donate food or blankets etc rather than cash. ...

I visited Sheffield not so long ago and found so many people begging in the street, funny though the majority had a dog sat next to them to help passers by to feel sorry for them....I did donate something to the cardbox box....a sachet of dog food... You may think I am harsh I have heard all the tales about poor homeless people, these homeless ...

If you buy the Big Issue what is your motivation for buying it. I ask this question because in this weeks copy the editorial in the magazine sort of asks this very question after a contestant on the Apprentice had commented that he disliked the way Big Issue sellers expect you to buy the magazine because they are homeless rather than the fact that ...

Now Homelessness and Street Begging is an issue that is important to consider. I have read some reviews on this subject recently and the overall opinion seems to be divided between they deserve it for not doing something about it themselves to we should help them as it is not their fault. First point to consider is why are people ...

I actually have quite a strong opinion on homelessness. I live in the town centre of Northampton and almost everyday on my way home from work I get yelled at by drunk homeless people. I often walk through a grave yard and many of them hang around there. I find that absolutely dreadful. They are drunk, yelling things out and being really really ...

Let me start by saying that I have nothing against the homeless. In many ways, I pity them. My gripe is not with them, but with those who are not homeless, but choose to beg for a living. I have met, and some may say befriended some of these types. These are people who store old ragged clothes so that they may achieve a free meal ...

I cannot remember how many times I had ever heard the title phrase or something similar in my life as an adult. It seems that just about no matter where you travel to in the world, poverty accosts you to either a larger degree or a lesser degree. It is difficult to often stomach what you see when faced even with children (particularly in ...

This review is based on homeless people and squaters in london. I know that is isnt really a realistic view on them, as what some of them experience doesnt happen to all. Just read with an opinion mind. Just never judge or look down on them saying, if I lived their life I wouldnt be where the are now. Its harder then some think. I think ...

OK so Im joking in my advantages and disadvantages - have a sense of humour ! Homelessness is a serious issue with many charities specifically set up to tackle the problem, SHELTER being the most famous. So why are there so many people who are homeless ?, we all see homeless people through the country selling the big issue etc, is ther ...

I'd never really encountered much begging until last year when I started University, meaning spending most of each day in a busy city. Initially, you would dig around for change and hope you had something to give, although often you didn't and had to walk past. However, after a year you become immune to the beggars you come ...

I?m not thick? Well, at least I don?t think I am! But I still fail to understand why the Government is failing the homeless so badly in this Country. I don?t understand what we pay taxes for if not to ensure, at least, that every inhabitant of the United Kingdom has their basic needs fulfilled. These ...

Jessica writes: Please don't judge me when you pass me by. I don't look like you. I have no washing machine to wash my clothes, thats why mine are not so clean as yours. Imagine for one moment a nightmare world where your home is not safe. Imagine extreme fear and desperation. Imagine a feeling of hopelessness. This nightmare is a reality for a large number of homeless people. It is true that a large percentage of that homeless statistic are people who have chosen to be homeless. The choice is not an ...

When I was a young thing I dated a boy for a few weeks. He was lovely and kind and caring but we weren't really made for each other so we split up. Another girl who I knew started to date him not long after and they eventually got married. They had a good house and enough money and seemed to be doing well but after several years I heard they ...
