I've had horses and ponies every since I was a little girl.I went to having a pony when I was five to larger horses as I got older. When I was 13 years old my daddy bought me a $2,000 dollar Morgan Show Horse. That was the most beautiful horse I had ever seen. She was chestnut color. She had a broad chest and a strong body.If anyone as ever seen a Morgan horse they can tell you how beautiful these horses truly are.She was trained for only a woman to ride, if a man got on her she would throw them off.She was an English & Pleasure show horse as well as an jumper. I won quite a few medals with her. One thing about owning a horse and getting use to a horse. For one thing you have to gain the horse's trust and don't let the horse feel that your afraid of them.Believe me a horse can tell if someone is nervous. Pet your horse everyday and groom it, let the horse know your it's best friend.Never hit or mistreat a horse. When you first get up on a horse, slowly get in the saddle and start off walking it around so it can get use to you.Talk to your horse like you would a dog or some other animal. If your trying to teach it commands, do it everyday at the same time and always reward it with sweet feed or an apple. Hope this helps someone else about riding or even considering buying a horse. You can ride out in the woods or country side. You will feel peace and serene. It use to help calm my nerves when something was upsetting me. If you are new at riding, don't give up riding if you fall off.Just keep trying it does get easier and it does get better.Horse riding is fun and exciting for the whole family.

- 18/12/00 I always wanted a horse, but living in London never got one. I'm jealous! Mention of Morgan horses always reminds me of the carriage race in the Little House on the Prairie series of books. |
