Advantages: none

Disadvantages: luxuries gone

How has the credit crunch affected me? I am a single person who lives on her own in a rented flat. At first I thought that the credit crunch wouldnt effect me. How wrong was I? I work in the financial industry and now I am frightened that I will be next on the redundancy list, which is something that I cannot avoid happening if it happens well im up the creek without a paddle which im sure a lot of other people would be. As I work in the financial industry as a 'benefit' I could get access to most credit very easily and sometimes without a credit search. How silly am I for taking advantage of this 'benefit'. Its my own fault I know that I am in the situation that I am in now. But I hope by sharing my opinion no one else would get in the same situation.
I am now in the position where I have had to really tighten my belt.
I live a 25 minute walk to work which I have decided to do on most days to save on the petrol.
I only pay by cash so what ever is left in my purse I know is all I have to spend.
I have switched the majority of items I eat and use for household items to the supermarkets own brand, the quality in most products really is not that much different but you save a fortune in each of the products.
After living on my own for 3 years I now looking to rent out my spare room.
Before I go shopping I plan all my meals in advance and always go shopping on a full stomach that way I stick to the list.
I have found a second hand clothes shop that will take items of clothing off me and if they sell them they give me a portion of the sale.
If I fancy treating myself which I do only once a month if I am going to a restaurant I search the internet first for money off vouchers. The other day I went to Pizza Hut with a friend and we had 50% off our bill. I also take minature bottles of my favourite spirit out with me so I only have to buy the soft drink while im out, naughty I know but a way of saving money.

I know I am one of the luckier ones as I only have to fend for myself and I admire the people with families making similar cut backs and more. Its a tough period for everyone but I know what I have learnt even if it is the hard way. Dont spend money that you dont have!

Summary: Things can only get better
