Advantages: It's terrible that some people are losing their homes & familes because of this.
Disadvantages: Maybe it's just what people need to appreciate the value of their lives and money.
The credit crunch has affected me in only one way really, I am now unemployed.
I had been working in my position for a year on a maternity cover and was advised all along that there would be a job for me if ever anyone else left or anything of that sort. Then they began making redundancies and pretty much all departments were hit. I was still told that if anyone else left there'd be a job for me. Then a month before I was due to leave it finally happened and somebody decided to resign, alas, there was a job for me, right? Nope. They had a drastic rethink and decided that they weren't going to take someone on permanently for the position.
I had had just about as much as I could stomach and was then signed off for 4 weeks with stress, my contract ending Thursday of this week. I won't be heading back before the end of my contract and can't wait for my P45 to arrive.
Working where I did was such an unbelievable amount of pressure and I am actually finding myself relieved that I've lost my job. Whilst I have less money I will be getting my rent paid for me and I'll have a little bit left to live on and any money that I earn online is going to hopefully pay for Xmas/Birthday presents and what not if I don't find another job immediately.
Overall it's a bad situation to be in but at least I'm not homeless or with a whole family to feed so I try and see the positives of everything.
I would say to anybody in a similar situation to register with agencies, trawl the jobcentre and claim any benefits that you are entitled to, anyway you've been paying tax and national insurance, you should claim something when you need it!
I am just grateful for a loving, supportive partner who is helping me a little financially and a loving family who are there for me whilst I feel better about life.
Thanks for reading.
Summary: It's not the best thing in the world to be unemployed, again!

- 31/03/09 I am sorry that things have turned out as they have. I must say however, that NO job is worth risking your health for. I hope everything goes well for you. Good luck. x |
