Advantages: QUICKER THAN ROWING

Disadvantages: SCARY AS HELL

My first flight was at 18! yeah I know I was a late starter. I hated the fact everyone else had except me.
Now I've flown numerous times. I hate it though. Why??? Probably because I can't work out how something carrying so many people can fly as light as a bird.
Its take off that I HATE! Id prefer to be drugged out of my eyeballs or put to sleep so I could be woken up when we are landing. Its the way the plane shudders! GOD how can anyone enjoy that. Don't most planes crash at take off???

Before every flight I am physically sick and have to keep running to the loo. In fact writing this is making me nervous as Im thinking too much about it!

I suppose I can be a nervous person, I don't particually like theme rides, not the big ones anyway! Maybe its got something to do with heights?

I brought myself a book, called 'flying, no fear!' co written by a Captain and a Physcologist. Quite interesting. I suppose if you look at it this way. How many people die/injured in car accidents, compared to plane crashes? Its only when it happens its big news because so many people are involved at one time. It is supposed to be the safest way to travel, but I am yet to be convienced. Maybe its because a car feels a lot smoother, not so many bumps. Maybe its because you don't get the drill about Safety!!

Its strange I have flown on my own loads of times to see friends in other countries. I would prefer to get a boat though. I even went to Australia. I had no problem with that flight, except the worry of DVT. In fact, I enjoyed it. Was that because the plane felt safer, I think! Its the chartered flights I hate. Don't you agree?? They look like toys!

Terroism doesn't scare me so much, funny that! Although the prospect of flying anywhere this summer if the war is still on is slim. I'll probably get a ferry some where or suggest to my other half to rent a holiday home.

I truly believe its the will of the passengers that gets the plane off the ground not the engines !!

If you really want to know how a plane flies, it works as follows:

The top surface of the wing is curved, the bottom side is flat. This means that, as the wing passes through the air, the air going over the top surface effectively has further to travel, so is moving faster. This creates a difference in air pressure, where the air above the wing is at a lower pressure than the air below. This generates lift, as the plane effectively moves to balance the air pressures.

Phew! !! Wake up folks, I'm done!
