The recent and still terrifying attacks on America by hijacked planes has brought the issue of exactly how safe is flying firmly into the public eye and figures announced today indicated that British Airways passenger figures are down some 30% following the terrible happenings on September 11. Now clearly, that's more to do with fear ... Read the complete review

We have all been led to believe by the media that it is the poor, average holiday-maker that suffers from DVT as a result of greedy airlines cramming them into smaller and smaller seats. However, business class passengers have also been affected and, looking at the evidence, are more likely to suffer. I am fortunate enough to work in the ... Read the complete review

I am due to go on holiday soon and am absolutely petrified. I dont think planes are safe it only takes a lapse in concentration from the control room and you have had it. People say you could get run over tommorow well at least you may survive. You are probably thinking you can if the plane crashes, but it is not very likely. You can get deep ... Personally, I have no phobias with flying and in that respect I suppose I am lucky as there are many people out there who cannot even think about it. However, I think that flying has been unfairly been deemed as unsafe and rather risky. Of course flying is risky but then everything you doo has some risk element. And compared to many ... It always happens to me! We were on holiday staying with relatives in London when I had a miscarriage; I had no idea I was pregnant but it was soon evident that something was very wrong.A doctor was called who confirmed my suspicions and told me just to rest. Wish I had listened – (I’ll have that put on my gravestone). No, not me ... Read the complete review

Right - a few things, concerning my bias for and against flying. I used to temp for a certain airline at their HQ, so i know all about the ways they'll try to make money - the push for business class passengers etc. I also stil live right next to Heathrow, and quite enjoy a trip to the airport to see what they've built ... In answer to my question - yes, I do feel safe flying! Flying is one of the safest forms of travel. Even safer, I suspect, that driving a car on solid ground! Being thousands of feet up in the air doesn't make you any less safer than what you are down here! But, saying that, there are cetain factors and risks to take into consideration. ... This is a difficult subject to write about as I can only see it from my point of view. I will try anyway. I think that flying is as safe as the any other modes of transport around. To get to different destinations I have driven, got the bus, got the train and flew. I have never had any accidents and have never seen any accidents ... Read the complete review

I used to work in an industry that assisted travellers who fell ill whilst abroad. My experience was that travel agents seem happy to tell you about lovely resorts, flights and the like but there are no important questions asked to ensure that people don't put themselves at increased risk by travelling by air. I suspect that this is mostly due ... Read the complete review

Flying. Fear. The two words go together so well, and have been used so much that if they are used in another way, it is as if something is missing. Like it or not, flying is an integral part of our hectic lifestyle. Where would we be without them? Holed up in Britain is the probable answer. Please do not think that I am stupid, ... A small Irish Company called Longhaul Technologies are about to release a product on the market which could significantly reduce the risks associated with longhaul flying. Economy-class syndrome is caused where passengers develop deep vain thrombosis from sitting in the same cramped position for several hours in a row. Speaking from personal ... The following material is reproduced from the BUPA website and following the quotation marks is NOT my own opinion (I'm not a doctor, but I am a frequent traveller and this initally caused me a fairly chronic panic attack). My reason for posting is that I feel that no airline section is complete without a good explanation of the potential ... Read the complete review

I am terrified of planes, have been as far back as I can remember. I have always had this feeling that the first plane that I set foot on will be the next one that crashes and I value my life far more than that. If you look at the odds, planes may crash far less frequently than what cars, trains or any other form of transport do, but the ... Read the complete review

I love to fly, I relax from sitting down to collecting my baggage. I have had the benefit over the last couple of years of flying both economy and first class to the USA. Obviously I had heard the terrible stories of the long haul passengers who died, due to these deep veined throbosi, yet I have always felt perfectly fine. ... Read the complete review

I love flying! In recent years I have flown to Cyprus (my first trip abroad), Canada (a school trip), Switzerland ( a concert tour), and in August 2000 went long-haul to Vancouver and Sydney (another concert tour)with United Airlines. Air travel at the moment is the safest form of transport with death rates falling every year through improved safety and better training for international pilots available through Western airlines. Statistically the smaller commuter craft are ten times more likely to crash as the pilots tend to make more short cuts inviting the statistic that ... Read the complete review

How safe do I feel about flying? Aghhhhh! I can’t stand it! Each flying trip sends me running to the doctor for a large supply of valium and the only way I get on the plane is by swallowing some of them! I love flying but after one horribly grueling 12-hour flight long haul trips are not for me. Squashed into seats with the smallest possible leg room space the atmosphere is claustrophobic with people perpetually squirming and writhing in their seats trying endlessly to get comfortable, whilst narrowly being hit in the face by the ... I fly frequently enough to have some concern over the current fear of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). To me, the very sound of it is pretty off-putting. The effect of DVT can clearly be devastating, as evidenced by the recent death of a young woman. In fact, there is a term known as “economy class syndrome” that was coined in ... DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis * Deep vein thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot in a vein, usually in the leg.
