Premium Review How safe do you feel about flying?: Seat class does not matter! (249 words)
by - written on 13/01/01 (Very useful, 62 readings)
Rating:

What a rediculous statement. Class of seat does not put you at more risk than any other. If you are sitting in economy, you are at the same level of altitude as any seat in first class. Its sitting at altitude that is meant to lead to Deep Vain Thrombosis on long distance flights. So sitting in any class is risky if your family has a ...  Read the complete review

Not so long ago an article on the safety of aeroplane travel would have been limited to the plane falling out of the sky. That is enough to scare most of us!! However recently a new problem has occurred, and unfortunately I'm not talking about the terrible aeroplane food they serve!! Air travel has become much more widespread in ...  Read the complete review

How safe do you feel about flying?: Air travel-the breakdown (142 words)
by - written on 12/01/01
Rating:

Air travel will increase significantly in the next ten years. Most airports are unprepared for the traffic. But it's not just the overload in systems like baggage handling, which can be merely inconvenient. More serious is our lack of action in installing safety and screening equipment for explosives. Eight years ago, after the Pan Am 103 ...  Read the complete review

So here we are, the year 2001, back in the day people said we would be living on the moon by now, but with all the hoo haa about 'economy class' syndrome we are still stuck on earth. As a fairly frequent flyer to the states I've done my fair share of flying over the last year or so, each time in economy class. Now you might be thinking big ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review How safe do you feel about flying?: Safe as houses (222 words)
by - written on 11/01/01 (Useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

Saying that - even houses do cave in now and then. And to stick to the comparison, a house which had had bad or no maintenance work carried out over a period of time is also more likely to succumb to gravity - just like a plane. I have been flying for quite some years now - both long haul and short distance, and can honestly say that I ...  Read the complete review

HOLD TIGHT!!! (301 words)

We've been hearing all sort's lately and not just about safety in the air also safety on the trains. It's quite amazing how a big pile of solid iron can fly up in the air like aeroplane's do, but we've all witnessed it. You may get frightened about being so high up above eveyone, looking down at all those people who ...  Read the complete review

The vast majority of air travellers have to travel in economy class due to price issues. We don't all have the luxury of "fully-reclinable" seats in business class (doesn't that advert make you feel so jealous?). Therefore the vast majority of us are stuck at the back of the plane with our knees up to our chins. The ...  Read the complete review

~ ~ From the very start let me make it clear that I have never been entirely happy stepping into a thin, cigar-shaped aluminium and alloy tube, to be hurtled through the stratosphere at incredible speed. ~ ~ The very first time I boarded an aircraft as a little boy of eight, one of the plane’s wheels wouldn’t come down ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review How safe do you feel about flying?: Have a safe journey (1170 words)
by - written on 07/01/01

Obviously when speaking about "How safe do you feel about flying?" there are a few things to be taken into consideration. The most obvious is the possibility that the plane will crash, blow up etc. I don't really think that this category is about that though, it is more about more immediate health concerns. I will address safety ...  Read the complete review

A wing and a prayer (737 words)

The aviation industry are pretty tight when it comes to safety as they have an independent health and safety authority that are not swayed by internal politics and profits.Every time something goes drastically wrong a detailed investigation is launched and generally the fatal problem is located and an improvement is made to reassure passengers to ...  Read the complete review

So air travel is dangerous and planes are going to fall out of the sky once a week within 10 years? Untrue. I am sure most of this is dreamt up by beaurocrats with large investments in Public transport. You ask any pilot about the faith he has in his aircraft and he will tell you. 100%. They would not do their job if the safety risks ...  Read the complete review

In my flying history, I have had spectacularly bumpy landings, Hollywood-movie style turbulence, small fires, and have discovered how easy it was to smuggle a convincing replica firearm through customs at Charles De Gaulle airport (if ever there's a 'Stupid Things You Have Done While Travelling' category I'll tell you that story). ...  Read the complete review

A lot has been in the papers lately in regard to the potential problems caused by long-haul flights. These flights, combined with poor passenger legroom, can (among other things) lead to fatal blood clots. So what can be done about this? Doctors recommend taking an aspirin to thin the blood, but this cannot be the answer for everyone. ...  Read the complete review

This is a fairly new subject that has hit the news. Previously everyone thought that the only danger from flying was the obvious high profile disasters. Airlines spend a lot of time and money on safety of the passengers and crew. We've all endured the in-flight safety procedures to follow in the event of an emergency landing. Many ...  Read the complete review
