SOUNDS DAMN SCARY IF YOU ASK ME!!!
How about just talking to the child and understanding the reason for the bad behaviour. Children find it hard to express their deep seated emotions they don't have the vocabulary for it so they do it by their actions and some parents deem this as naughty, disobedience, cheek etc...
In sunny South Africa we have a wide scope for parents on discipling their kids which I feel is wrong. We have a lot of TV docs. detailing the amount of abuse children sustain under the "discipline" umbrella.
I feel this is a tough argument to win as to how far does one go to achieve the desired results?
What one parent does to discipline a child another parent would shudder in their boots.
Should their be a handbook provided with every delivery of a child guiding a parent on how to raise it, I would say YES but each child is different and so is each parent, so which handbook do you give them. I say develop a check in centre for children from the day they are born that they be registered with the said centre and they have to be checked in every six months to a year for evaluation and checked to see that they are not being abused and especially whether or not they are being fed correctly.
Many natural healers, homeopaths, herbalists have told me that what we feed our children plays an enormous part in their bahavioural patterns, we overload sugar, they can't burn it quickly enough and this can also lead to other illnesses and diseases later on in their adult lives not to mention what we do to their teeth!!!!
The problem with parents today is we rely on television and computers to stimulate our children and I accept that sometimes there is no alternative, gone are the days when the mother stayed at home to raise the kids while daddy went to earn the dosh! We are forced by the times we live in to work as well as be mommy, wife, coucellor, best friend, lover, doctor and all the other tradesman you can think of.
Leading by example is not the solution to the problem some children are born to parents who should not even lead a dog. Usually there is where the abuse is found.
I say education is the best method of teaching anything to anyone. Educate a parent before giving them the task of educating an infant.
The long and the short is don't blow a fuse because you had a bad day and can't deal with your kid, rather damage yourself and take a calmative or prozac before you do long term damage to your child.
