The debate about how to discipline children is as old as the hills. I am sure in our great grandparents' days they discussed the same!

Times have changed of course, but I feel one of the root causes of today's lack of discipline is the lack of manners amongst young children.

By learning these, children also learn respect for others and that will in turn produce more positive behaviour.

I also feel that as many modern parents have full time jobs they are tired and stressed when they eventually get home to their children.

In turn, the children are also probably tired - many of them are up very early before being dropped at a childminder or nursery, then perhaps a full day at school and then maybe even after school clubs or evening activities.

Children demand things, rather than politely asking, the parents give in to these demands because they are too tired to battle and so the child gets the message that this is an acceptable way to behave.

Summary: Tired parents give in to the easy way out
