Advantages: behaving for my mother

Disadvantages: not behaving for me

hi everyone i have two children and my daughter has just turned 3 and for the first 2 years of her life we lived with my parents and now that i have lived on my own for just over a year she wont listen to me cause my mum stuck up for her every time .. its so hard to control my child.when were out and about my daughter runs a muck pushing through people and just being a nusence.i tell my mother not to reward her with cuddles and kisses when she has been told off but she wont listen to me..also she has a thing of sucking her fingers till they are prooned and dehidrated i have tried everything if you have any ideas that would be great...i believe in a small smack on the bottom never hurt but i found something better... sending her to the corner that has a big sign saying "im hear cause i am naughty laugh at me if im sitting here" works wonders i prefere that rather than smacking..if you have advise that would be great..thank you

Summary: how do we raise our children when we have parents around???

And mumsymary is right - cuddles, praise and being told "I love you and am proud of you" can go a long way to boosting kids esteem and make them feel more secure. When they hear this it makes them lower their guard and not feel like their relationship with their parents is a constant struggle - and you will start to enjoy them more too! Toddlers can be a handful, but they can also be so much fun. Last piece of advice - pick your battles. Kids need to win every now and then too.
