Advantages: happy child if it works
Disadvantages: unhappy child if it doesn't work
Christmas time is when children are probably most happy. No school and anticipation for Christmas presents are foremost in their minds. Fun begins after christmas is over.
Buy them lots of presents. Lol, actually being a parent is a very difficult job. Child discipline is hit and miss.
There is no one perfect solution to dealing with naughty kids.
Taking away what they like most is probably the most effective way on telling them who the boss is.
Little ones are very clever they work out how to manipulate their parents.
Locking away your child for 1/2 hour could also work.
My mother used to take away my pocket money if I was naughty.
Physical punishment does have desire effect in the short run, but research in US and UK has suggested that it is not more effective than any other method. More you hit your child more tolerant they become to this and in the long run emotional problems could become an issue.
Being a parent is not easy and unruly children makes life very difficult. I suppose the best advice is to buy a book on being a parent and try everything out.
I would suggest the following:
talking
taking away privileges
light physical punishment
and if that doesn't work consult a specialist.
The most essential thing is not to blame for yourself. Most parents at one time or another have problems with their children.
Summary: being a parent is a very difficult job.

aestro - 09/03/07 There is no way that you should hit a child in any circumstance... however lightly its just wrong. They're defenceless... Taking away something which is yours for eg not letting them watch the TV would be ok but if you lock them away as you put it or take away something which is rightfully theirs they're only going to end up resenting you and doing it again to rebel. I dont believe in discipline, i believe in treating them with as much respect as you would ecpect in return, like an adult - and discussing issues ect... with very small children its a slightly different issue because they wouldnt understand. |
