Advantages: love your child
Disadvantages: will test you
The golden rule is to treat children as your equal. They are human and they have brains and should you wish to make life easy by bribing than as a parent you are in trouble.
Little ones are very clever and they will find your weakness to win over whatever the challenge is.
Hitting is wrong. Only weak and the bully. Odd smacking might do the trick. Parents have to learn that bringing up a child is a very difficult job. There are no right way to do things. Every child is different and every parent is different. Something might work here but not there therefore I suggest any parent should use common sense to make life easier for themselve and the child.
Children will cry, children will test your patience. Take it on the chin and make the best of it. After all the child is fruit of your labour and I am sure you enjoyed that. Do the best for your child in most cases this will work. No drinking with friends, no this and that, make sure your life is dedicated to the child and you will be fine.
Imagine childless couple what they go through to achieve what you have.
Summary: child is best a parent can hope for.

dvdsprks2 - 21/02/08 Children aren't your equals they are your children. You should treat them with respect only. You don't cry to your child when you don't get your own way, so how can they be equals. I'm a father of a 35 and 29 year old I think I only smacked my boy if he really needed it and my girl only once. Unfortunately the lines between hitting and smacking have become blurred so parents are frightened of disciplining their children, which is why we have kids being stabbed in our streets they have no respect. When a parent uses anything other than the palm of their hand to discipline a child this is when I believe the law should take over. Mind you I'm not talking about getting the slipper or cane at school, look at children today because these were abolished and parents have no bite children have nothing to fear as the law will be on their side. I had to give my view on reading this. |
