How my parents treated me (How to Discipline Children)

Maybe I am out of my depth as I don't have children of my own yet but I do babysit and some of these children have no manners or respect whatsoever. Some swear blindly at their parents and shout insults at their grandparents without reason while they just laughed at by the family with no punishment. Why should a child be praised for bad behavior?

When I was young and did something bad I was given a warning and if I didnt behave I was shunted out the room. Some parents would say oh but they could run away out the door and into the street. Then lock the door and put the keys out of reach so they dont! I agree with the supernanny approach one minute of exclusion for every year they are alive.

I am also rather horrified at the amount of crap young children have in their rooms nowadays, I don't care what you say a five year old does not need a tv, computer, dvd and playstation in their room. If they continue to be badly behaved or stay up late take it away bit by bit and let them watch tv or play video games as a reward. I didn't have anything like that in my room until my teenage years, some children also start speaking with American accents ive noticed because they watch so much tv, what happened to communication or going to a play date with a friend.

Some children are just way too indulged though and get to eat junk all day because they wont eat what their parents cook, so no wonder obesity is rising, if I didn't eat what was put in front of me I didn't get to eat its as simple as that, kids will eat when they are hungry, cut off the junk food supply and they will eat what you eat, it also means you all get to eat together and share your day and communicate with the family.

My parents followed all these rules with no violence or beating involved, I have no criminal convictions and attend a decent university so they must have had a good impact.

Summary: some children are just over indulged
