Disadvantages: Make it seem okay to hit people

I thought it might be interesting, as a person who is classified as a child, to give an insider's opinion on this subject. At the age of 15 (myself) I like to think that I am past being called a child, but technically I believe that I still qualify for this category. I also have three brothers, two of them younger than myself, so I know all about the bringing up of children, having seen it in my own household.

For the first years of a childs life it is totally unneccessary to hit a child, as they are bound to be asleep within the hour. It is when children start going to school that I think their behaviour deteriorates and they start to be rude to their parents and deliberately cause chaos and havoc.

I cannot start to pretend to say that I was, and still am, a perfect child. I am sure that I still annoy parents. However, the problem lies in the fact that I am now as big as them, so hitting me will not do much good.

From around the ages of 5-10, I believe, is the possible "hitting" period. After 10 I believe that hitting a child will do absolutely no good, as will sending them to their room, because their room is probably their favourite place to be.

So, finally round to the point. Should hitting children be allowed. My opinion is :-
In schools, No, because otherwise it will become impressionable on the children. However, by parents, I believe that a sharp smack does no harm, although not too regularly, just to show who is in charge and to watch their future conduct. That is an insiders opinion.
